    Melton Mowbray Pies: the Tradition

    Hi Hotpotters

I need your help: Can anyone find the History of Melton Mowbray pies being easten on Boxing day?

I am sure the history of these classic British foods is that they are eaten for BREAKFAST on Boxing day, but I cant find proof.

    Can you guys un-earth anything?

    Cheers

PS: Sainsbury's make the best mass produced ones. AVOID Tesco's ...they;re horrible and pink inside.

We always had one at home as the centrepiece of the cold buffet @ lunch &/or tea time. as for brekky I always like to cook a classic bubble & squeak (with the addition of sprouts too )

I had a Ginster's Melton Mowbray Pork Pie from a Services yestaday. It was pricey, but back in the car boy was it worth it.

Zak Edit:That is a good, funny post

I only really like the pastry on a pork pie, yummm i love how it's all crumbly, i'll very often eat the pastry and leave the pork bit, doesn't go to waste, either Jon or the Dog will eat it

hehe.. thats actually rather funny as initially (when the things were invented) the pastry was only on there to keep the meat good for longer, and they discarded it when they ate the meat inside
