    Best knives?

Got given some Global knives for xmas...
sharp as! now have my eye on a stylish magnet knife-holder to prevent them getting knocked around in a drawer and a few other knives in the Global range. shame they're pricey but wow are they good.
anyone know where to get a decent magnetic strip to hold knives? and has to be a fairly decent magnet to hold up a few knives...

Please, Don't ask for that one 'as a desktop'...its really not worth wasting your time asking, unless you're able to pay £££?

Dunno if it's any use to you, but I bought mine from Barnitts (local hardware store) about a year ago - they have a website at http://www.barnitts.com/ and they have a contact sales email address - might be worth dropping them a line.

asda do a stainless steel magnetic holder that looks quite smart for about 8 quid.

or theres the proper global one for 60-90 quid depending on the size.

hope you don't mind the plug but i work at a store that sells loads of this kind of thing http://www.thomaswilliam.co.uk the global magnetic holder is 50 quid for the smallest one. There are a few other brands as well, ranging from around 15 - 30 quid. I'd recommend the Stellar coz its stainless steel and has a proper strong magnet

Best knives I've heard of are the ultra-sharp ceramic ones. Can't say I've ever used one, but a lot of people I've talked to swear by them.

    Of course, they're not magnetic!

Try Swibo, cheap but good quality. Also Victorinox, and Wustoffs if you have the cash.
Not a Global fan, had one snap under heave use & don't like the feel. Still, it's what feels right in your hand. Ceamic coated jobbies also have a tendency to be brittle & not keep a good edge.

FOLD FOR HEXUS! It's your duty.

One of the guys in the college kitchen where i've worked has a titanium knife. It's very light and feels nice but is has holes machined in and is far flexier than other chef's (21 cm) knifes .

If you want light flexible single piece knives then Globals are the best.

I hear great things about Wusthoff but don't have any direct experience.

My personal favourites are Lion Sabatier, nice substantial Thiers knives with a full tang and 3 rivets on the handle. Beautifully balanced, nice weight (quite a bit heavier than Globals), and they hold an edge like nothing else I've ever used. The 10" cooks knife is a beast to behold and wield.

My personal preference is a classic-stlye sabatier, having grown up with them as my staple knife, nothing else feel quite right.
    - That said, any dencent knife is a joy to work with after you've done a year of using crappy asda knifes as a student in halls.
    - Ive now got a 6" sabateir lion, just like at home. Im possably the only student in the contry we a decent knife!

    Global Knives Magnetic holder

Worth a look on a price comparsion site such this one that specialises in global knives http://www.global-knives-online.co.uk/ (if you are based in the uk that is). They cover most of the big merchants such as Amazon, John lewis etc.
