Can anyone reccommend a cordless phone?
I need a new cordless DECT phone. I just want a single cordless phone with answerphone, but one that is good at loudspeaker, or is it possible to get one you can plug a headset into?
There are so many to choose from, and I can only imagine the horrible quirks some of them must have, can anyone recommend me a good phone or know any website that review cordless telephones? |

Ok, I've decided on a phone - The Panasonic KX-TCD290 - mostly due to only being able to find a few reviews of phones, but this one stood out well enough to be one of the few phones that have been reviewed and seems great!...
The features that make it stand out over other phones are as follows: Superior build quality, Much longer range than other DECT phones, Volume goes louder than most phones (on handset and loudspeaker), 2.5" headset jack. Not the most attractive phone, but I like it, because it looks strong!... ![]() Most online shops sell it for around £70 + delivery, but I've ordered it for £68 including delivery from an Amazon marketplace shop. A review of it is found here http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile...-DECT-Phone/p1 |

It's a phone you can leave lying around on the floor, safe in the knowledge it can be stood on and kicked ![]() This picture makes it look sleek and sexy though ![]() ![]() |

I didn't even realise until now, but it even has a review here!!!!! on Hexus! http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5071
--- EDIT --- Ok, it's not a review, after just reading it all - It's just a news story about it being released perhaps? |

It is indeed a very high quality phone, I shouldn't really have been playing with it, as it's meant to be charged for 8 hours before first use, but I couldn't help myself I'm always like that with new toys ![]() Range The base is located right at the front of my house (which is built of thick stone wall), My garden is about 50m long, and the distance inside the house (from where the base is) to the back garden is about 20m and has 2 thick stone walls in the way. Still perfect quality at the bottom of the garden! My old OneTel cordless phone could only sometimes, on a good day, get signal at the top of the garden! Build Quality Outstanding! Exactly like the reviews say! Looks Yeah, it's not the most attractive phone, reminds me of the old nokia 5110, except it's a bit bigger, bigger than I was expecting at 16cm tall, but feels good in your hand. As you can see in the above picture, there's an orange light around the base of the aerial which is on while charging (not sure if it turns off when it's finished charging yet) and it flashes when there's a call. I think the phone would look very cool if that light could be changed to blue! I'm not sure if I want to take it apart yet to change the LED ![]() Features Of course, it doesn't have a colour screen (which I think is just silly on a home phone anyway), but the 3 lines of dot-matrix display (with icon space below) is pleanty big enough to display long names and international numbers with extensions. It has all the features of other panasonic phones, which is everything you can imagine on a home phone (not including sim card reader or VoIP, but does include a headset jack that is rare on cordless phones). I like the night mode especially; you can set a time period where the phone will be silent. I have my night mode set to 00:00-08:00 (but also set so if a caller keeps ringing for over 30, 60, 90 or 120 seconds, the phone will ring; useful for emergency calls). Also, night mode is set independantly for the handset and the base. Weird Quirks When a caller hangs up, the ringing stops immediatley, but the lights continue to flash, and still says "Incomming Call" on the screen for about 4 seconds. I suppose this is good, because I've had calls before where someone rings for only a fraction of a second, then hangs up, and I've wondered "was that the phone ringing?". I don't really like the voice: It speaks to you when you press buttons on the base e.g. "no message", "answer set, [day, time]", "answer off". It's a more human tone than other phones I've heard, but she speaks slowly, as if speaking to a young child, or to someone that is learning to speak english. But I'll get used to it. Conclusion I'm very happy with it! Because of the build quality, I can imagine this phone living longer than me! |
