Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues

IMO HD-DVD will win out, bluray is too expensive and is also more fragile than DVD. Sony are also quite good at cocking these things up.

    Not in the slightest.

You need to go back and take a look at the adoption rates for older formats, what you will see is that HD-DVD and BluRay have been adopted FASTER then DVD was. The prices are even lower then when DVD released.

Yes, the format war needs to end, there are a number of people umming and ahhing over the 2 formats and a clear winner/combo drives would bring them into the next-gen but most of the early adopters have already bought in to AT LEAST one of the formats, many have bought both to cover their bases.

At the end of the day, Joe Public is NEVER going to buy HD-DVD or BluRay, he hardly saw the difference when he (begrudgingly) switched from VHS to DVD! Its going to take a new format (5-10 years from now) to offer the kind of night and day changes that VHS>DVD gave us, not just more resolution that his Daewoo 32" or smaller TV is not going to show.
