HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
Look's like the war of the formats is going to get a bit more interesting. Paramount have announced that they are dropping blueray (apart from on Speilberg's films) and support HD-DVD.
You can read more at the following link ![]() http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=412 |

Heard about this last night, but not read any of the details as yet.
Still un-convinced by both formats to be honest. |

Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
Another reason for me to hold on for the Samsung BD-UP5000 since it plays both formats.
Edit: Dailytech have same story too here |

Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
Paramount have been acting very strange in that they were hd dvd exclusive to begin with, then went neutral now back to HD DVD, what is it going to be ... I think we may just end up as a consumer accepting both formats and having the dual playback players as the 'The Hand' uses. I don't see Sony backing down this time on there blue ray format, now HD DVD just rolling over and dying.

Neither is getting my money until 1 wins, or the PS3 gets some games good enough to make me part with some cash.

![]() I just hope one owns the other so we don't all have to have 2 drives in everything ![]() Although I'm sure combo drives would be made. |

Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
I'm waiting for the combo units to come out, I refuse to miss out on some dvd's because they are only on 1 of the formats(ie casino royale on blue ray only)

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

the combo units will come from weaker brands though (from what I read)
This tedious war needs to end. |

All the companies involved in the next gen formats should have put their differences aside for the sake of profit (just for once) and made a single product that is better than blue-ray or HD-DVD. They could have had a combined marketing effort which would have made life easier for us and them. But I guess there is too much common sense involved. |

Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
It's Betamax vs VHS - the next generation when you look at it and things like this are going to occur again, and again and again with technology.
People say competition is healthy in this sector, well if it's at the expense of the consumer it's not healthy at all. |

Re: HD-DVD vs Blueray - the fight continues
Everytime I see one of the single-format Hi-Def players reasonably priced, I have to remind myself that combo units aren't far off... the stores just want to milk us a bit more first
