Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
Depends what you want... Most BBC-HD is in 2.0 whereas Sky HD is 5.1. BBC-HD won't show that many movies, but will show a cross section of BBC programming. Sky HD will give you both. Both will require payment (Sky HD installation/box charge then ongoing subscription, or Freeview box for BBC-HD, which may also require another box a few months later). Freeview HD may well be limited to overnight broadcasts inititally, 8 hours I think, whereas Sky HD broadcasts as long as regular Sky. Oh yes, Sky HD is available now, I don't think a date has been set for Freeview HD.

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
I don't think Freeview HD will even be implemented until the 'digital switch over' is complete and that's in 2012 I think.

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
£30 is an estimate of what the other package parts would cost you - Sky TV (however many mixes you choose) and whether you take sports/movies....

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
"One-off £30 standard set-up cost applies when you take up any combination of Sky products, or free if you take a Multiroom subscription before 17 December."

True, but it's mpeg2 re-enocdes of the existing BBC-HD h.264 content and is very limited in the programming available. |

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
I'd like HD but really.. Sky is so darn expensive for what you get tbh.
HD content provision is such a mess on so many fronts..

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
I would say not atm, sky has about 16 channels that are HD currently and freeview its no where near realease. Sky is moving a new satelite from America to Uk in about 5 months and this will increase the channels to about 300. So i would say its worth waiting a bit, as the price of the HD box will go down as well.

Re: Sky HD vs Freeview HD
Before investing in HD kit, get your eyes tested (seriously!) and do a comparative viewing test of the screen size you want, viewed from the distance your sofa (or whatever...) will be placed. Although HD looks better close-up, once you move away from it, the difference between SD and HD is far less impressive - and it's a lot of money if you can't see any difference...
For example, I seriously doubt if most people would notice any major difference between SD and HD on a 42" screen viewed from 10 feet away. Still, it's your money... |
