Current best GPS
Hi,
So I've given up on the idea of getting an all in one SatNav etc system for my car. The cost was going northwards of £2000 and still didn't give me exactly what I wanted, so I've decided to go for a decent headunit, and removable GPS unit. What's the current best on the market? It's got to have: Live traffic updates Updatable POIs - including speed cameras Preferably Europewide map coverage Cheers..... |

Re: Current best GPS
i'd be interested in any answers to this as well as how much these companies charge for updates after the first 12 months .
also, does anyone know of any reputable sites that have decent comparative reviews of these devices rather than just someone whose bought one going "yeah, its great" |

Re: Current best GPS
get a tomtom.
i've used a few devices, and my comparative experience between a tomtom & medion with almost identical spec (same cpu, twice the RAM in the medion, windows in the medion & linux in the tomtom) is that one device is useful, and one device is a paperweight even the cheapest tomtoms do what you ask for, and are responsive & easy to use. this isn't always the case. |

Re: Current best GPS
Garmin are second to none but the professional units in terms of the quality of the maps they have. Features comparable or better equipped than the TomTom range.
Updates are simple, the mapping software (once you've got your head round it) is a doddle to use, and live updates are possible on the newer units. High quality dependable sat navs, without breaking the bank. |

Re: Current best GPS
You can always get tomtom on a phone too - and some phones have GPS (hardware) built in so you've only one device to carry

Re: Current best GPS
Well I have a Garmin i3 - it's great, but doesn't do TMC traffic updates. Also, I want a dedicated GPS rather than a mobile phone based app.
Can anyone recommend a specific model? |
