Re: New Doctor Who
I don't why they put her in it. I don't know if shes meant to be a serious character or not! I just bought DVD of one of the old Doctor who's (with Tom Baker) and loved it, the BBC should just show the old ones again imo

Re: New Doctor Who
I agree with previous posters that Catherine Tate was just plain annoying in the early epiosdes. To be generous, she has taken a while to grow/adapt into the role but seems to have done so from the two-parter Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.
Anybody else think that this weekend's episode ("Midnight") was one of the best of the series? Really quite scary (you never actually see the threat, its left to your imagination) and quite an effective study in group/herd mentaility and reaction to external threat. |

Re: New Doctor Who
Yeah I did like Saturday's episode, I thought the imagery from the external shots was sublime too.
But it was impressive to basically shoot an entire episode in 1 room. The little joke at the end with tate repeating the doctor was fab too ![]() Next week looks interesting too.... TiG |

Re: New Doctor Who
I'm finding that I didn't mind her in early eps, but now she is starting to grate more on me, i'm kinda hoping she is only gonna be in it for this season.
As for Saturday's ep, was quite entertaining but equally frustrating as I found that the characters reaction to the situation was a bit overdone, and not really that believable. |

Re: New Doctor Who
The biggest arguement at my wedding on Saturday was whether or not Catherine Tate deserves to be in Doctor Who. I was arguing that whilst the CHARACTER is well written and interesting, Tate's acting skills (or lack thereof!) and annoying accent ruins the feel of the series.
She really cannot act a role other than "loud mouthed bitch" and I can't help but get the feeling she's been typecast to real life.... |

Re: New Doctor Who
I keep expecting Catherine Tate to slip into one of her terrible impressions. Doctor who went down hill since John Pertwee

Re: New Doctor Who
I thought Catherine Tate was brilliant in the role - but then again I have not seen her in much before so had no preconceptions of her... Could that make the difference? I htink this was one of the best series of Dr Who I have ever seen.

Re: New Doctor Who
I don't think it makes much difference - i've never seen any of her shows, but I hated her in Dr Who..completely the wrong character for the show, made it very very cheesy.
It was an OK series, but the ending was terrible (especially the lord of the rings style scene where everyones laughing and hugging for 5 mins..the writers clearly ran out of ideas at that point), and it was so incredibly corny..No where near as good as season 3 of the new series - that one really worked well ![]() Still, no more tate luckily, wonder who we will get in the specials/2010 series... |

Re: New Doctor Who
As the series went on tate became slightly less annoying.
The final episode I thought was quite sad in the way the doctor will never see rose again. Torchwood might be interesting next series if Martha and Micky are in it |

Re: New Doctor Who
Well to be perfectly honest I didn't start watching it at first because I was convinced that I was going to hate Catherine Tate but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
She is a much better actress than she is a comedienne. I've always really disliked her "comedy" shows but I thought she carried the character of Donna off very well indeed and I ended up enjoying the series very much. |

Re: New Doctor Who
Anyone else think the final 2 epsiodes where probably the best of the entire Dr Who series?
Really scary stuff and just like episodes from the Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee era. Great stuff |

Re: New Doctor Who
I haven't watched them yet but lots of ppl are saying the last episodes of the series are the best. I think I've watched about 5 of them so far. Not great so far. Will stick with it though.

Re: New Doctor Who
I'd have to agree, the last 2 episodes were really good.
Did anyone else think that Julian Bleach who played Davros (and who also played Ghostmaker in the Torchwood episode "From Out of the Rain") was perfect for the role? |
