    iPod Touch Questions

i plan to buy an iPod Touch and i guess i have to ask..

    1. can you use any 3rd-party app in uploading music/mp3 files to an iPod Touch?

    2. is there such a thing as "bookmarking" wherein you "queue" a song so it plays after the other?

    3. re: the safari browser will i be able to use it in an area where there is free wi-fi?

    4. does the weather updates for all cities? (Asia, Europe, Americs, etc.)

    5. i know there is an "updated" iPod Touch but is there an option to update the firmware like other players from Sony, Samsung, Creative, etc.

i have mp3 files downloaded from P2P/peer-to-peer sites. if i use iTunes can i use it to import those files and upload it to my Ipod Touch?

can you also use iTunes to upload mpeg/video or mp4 files to the iPod Touch?

if the weather updates are for major cities how does the iPod Touch "knows" it? is it thru wi-fi?

    Re: iPod Touch Questions

    Let me see here:

1: Not that I'm aware of, the touch can't be recognised as an external drive yet.

    2: Hmm, don't know.

3: Yes, browser is fine over open and secured wifi, assuming you have the correct details.

4: If the city is available on the list, then yes.

5: Apple do release updates for the touch, yes.

Yes, my own source MP3s were transferred up too, plus movies and videos. Weather does update via wifi, as the touch has no other connectivity options.

    Any help?

regarding those mp3 files downloaded from a P2P site. coz i heard of Apple and this digital rights in music or something. would that matter? as long as it's a "plain" mp3 file it would upload to the iPod Touch?

    Re: iPod Touch Questions

Tracks downloaded from P2P services are illegal (assuming they are commercial tracks) and discussion of them is not allowed HEXUS.

But to answer your question with some detail: regular tracks pruchased from iTunes contain DRM which only alloows you to play that music on your iPod or on iTunes itself. iTunes+ tracks, which i think cost more and are a higher bitrate, do not include DRM. Standard MP3 files do not include DRM of any kind, there is no provision for this in the file format. An iPod can play any MP3 file no problem because it doens't contain any DRM. iPods no not require DRM to be able to play them.

    Re: iPod Touch Questions

i currently have a Samsung P2 which is a bril music player...it's got bluetooth, plays mpeg videos, touch screen, etc. but im tempted to buy an iPod Touch 'cause of it's touch screen, weather updates, wi-fi surfing thru Safari and "on-the-go" playlist which lets you "queue" songs after the other which sadly the P2 doesn't do. yet.

but i heard the iPod Touch's sound is not good? or is it? (i've got Sony earphones at the mo') how about the EQ settings?

and also my other "concern" is updating firmware which has a minimum payment? (unlike the P2..it's free!)
