    A storm in a teacup...

... Or how tigs is finally embracing the digital age!

I've ordered myself a Blackberry Storm so I thought I'd share my experiences with you.

Bit of background - I've not yet embraced the whole "smartphone" thing as I haven't really needed it until now. My phone requirements were that it needs to talk and text and anything else is a bonus.

Until this year, I haven't really needed to have my email on me constantly (crackberry style) until I got a second job contracting for a small company.

To be honest, I do use Facebook quite a lot between my friends to keep in touch, but it annoys me that I can't answer messages when I get an alert in my Gmail. (The book of face is banned on our network)

    So, why get one?

First, I needed a new contract that included more minutes and more texts as I'm constantly going over these on my current one.

Second, my camera gets left at home when I'm out and about doing important tigger things. I was going to get a new smaller one, but this little lovely device seems to have a reasonable camera built in.

Third, I don't like getting caught off guard when I get an email from my client while I'm on the way home. I've finally felt the need to keep in touch with my email.

It should arrive Monday AFAIK. Real excited now!

Yep big I-phone type screen, but with a novel approach to it, the whole screen clicks like a button, so no more accidental clicks on, on-screen items.

    didn't know that, sounds odd.

Would be really interesting to have a play about with it though. Never liked BlackBerry's before, but they were strictly geared towards email to start with (everything else about them was pants), then they were just too formal and just did phone + email. Now they are pushing their all round functionality so it will be interesting to see how it does. Shame it is limited to Vodafone as we are with O2 so not likely to see any in the office any time soon.

I still want the Touch HD instead though

Don't think so, but yeah, they do look similar.

I thought BB made their own phones? but then SE normally make their own yet got HTC to build the X1 for them.

Hmmmmm, this means some digging is in order...

BB do make there own phones, I was just stuck by how similar the general chassis tended to look.

Although I think atm everything is starting to look like an I-phone type thing.

there is a limit to how you style a ~4" touch screen phone if you want it to take up virtually all the front face

Vodafone's upgrade site officially sucks, I am not paying £200 for a Storm!

Over the phone I can have it for free, and going into a store I can get it for free. Just gotta wait until Monday

The Touch HD is nice but its quite big. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 has the same resolution screen but is a bit smaller. Plus it has a full keyboard.

Well, first update is that my order is still waiting to be dispatched.

Rumour has it that they're not getting any more until the end of the month... Fan-tastic.

Re: A storm in a teacup...

Well, thanks to Rastmanblues giving up on his... I am now the owner of a lovely lovely BlackBerry storm.

    I think its just fantastic.

It's taken me a while to learn how to use the damn thing - mainly because I'm a bit of a tit when it comes to electronics.

    For example:
    1. Scroll up to go down... this caught me out the first time.
    2. My thumbs are too fat for the keyboard, need to learn to be a bit more precise.
    3. Select and click - got this one down to a fine art now.

All in all it's a gorgeous looking device and very very easy to use, even for a smartphone noob like myself.
Setting up Email (Gmail) was simple, the facebook app keeps me connected (banned at work, so it's a way to communicate!) Google maps knows where I am... that was cool.

The only issue I've found so far is that it doesn't seem to like automated systems - tone dialling - (press 1 for customer services etc) - I'm trying to google this one but not found anything on it yet.
