Is there some reason my new heavy missiles are less effective than my old light missiles?

Target size? Small missiles track better. Heavy missiles will have trouble tracking smaller ships.

Could be, didn't think of that, I might try a mix of both for a while.

There's a good guide to missiles here. Basically, heavy missiles are most effective against cruisers and lights against frigates. Of course, what skills you have in the various sizes will affect their damage output as well. I used to use heavies a lot as they can still do reasonable damage on frigates to battlecrusiers.

Thanks again, think I'll retire my heavy missiles for the moment then as I rarely encounter anything big.

I actually read that guide but didn't realise there was more than one page until now
