One I've started to get interested in is Pirates of the Burning Sea. Not released yet, but there should be an open beta sooner or later so you can at least try it out before it releases. Sounds a bit different with both sea and land combat and set a bit more "realistic" rather than fantasy. I believe it has potential and is one to keep an eye on.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; then it's bloody hilarious!

Whatever you go for, don't try Lineage II. I had hoped it would be enjoyable, and it might be for some, but the grinding....................it just never ends.
There are so few quests that between, say lvl 8 and lvl 15, all you can do is repeat the same grind quest for 7 levels !! My brain died at level 20 and the account expired 2 weeks later (and that was the one month free trial with the game). Friends played UO and thought it the most vaired game around, but nowadays lacks a little in graphics. Star Wars.....not played, but heard it got nerfed by SONY when people started leaving, they just helped everyone else leave. If you find a good free, or reasonably cheap one, keep us posted ![]() Impy PS Anyone know how much Ultima subs are per month? Could not find on their web site
Thnx to YouKnowWho, it's time for YouKNowWhat

If you want a game that is the most gripping of all the MMORPG then go with WoW - but.....you need to get in with a good Guild to make it work.
I have run a Guild in WoW since the Beta days and we are still going strong - with mostly the original members still active ![]() If you do not get a good guild, then it can kinda suck as it is a grind - the Social side of being in a Guild makes the game worthwhile. One day there will be Star Trek Online...then I will be a Captain Until then look out for Warhammer Online - that is looking to be a good Wow beater....most of my Wow guild have talked about switching - funnily - most have not gone to LoTR Online.....

Thing with WoW is if you get caught up with a crap guild, it'll put you off for life. 3 guilds i was in during my two years and they were full of a**holes, both online and in real life!
LOTR i've heard is pretty heavy going, but again much like WoW. I tried GW but hated it after a couple of days, Everquest i found to be full of elitist morons, and DAOC was the best of the best imo. I'm so tempted to go back to it, but lookiing after 2 kids is taking up alot of my time. However, there is a Conan mmorpg coming out soon, called Age of Conan which looks like it should - sword and sorcery Robert E Howard style http://www.ageofconan.com/en/index.html

From my experience I think picking an MMO depends on what your interests are. I love comic books so I really dug City of Heroes/City of Villains, played it for about a year, but there wasnt enough end-game content for me. I have since been playing Lord of the Rings Online and I really enjoy it, moreso than WoW because the people seem friendlier at the early levels when you need advice. MMOs to look out for in the future, as already mentioned, would be Conan, Star Trek and Warhammer. Although if you dont want to pay sub fees, just go with guild wars.

Well, from playing/completing GW with severla chars (all 3 chapters) then being bought WoW...
If you want to pickup a casual MMO that you can go on when you feel and when you don't - GW every time. ![]() The battles/missions are good, some good quests for prophecies towards the end. Hard to find good players, but they are there. If you want a fully immersive MMO - WoW. It will take over your life. Time will seem to stop. But it's darned good fun. ![]() Again, the guild makes the difference, average player age on the horde side seems to be higher than the average age of a GW player - And it is easier to find decent players I've found. Put it this way - Completed all of GW using henchies/heros (hero's for NF). Got asked to help someone through the last mission in Nightfall - They died twice. (usually no-one died) So in general... Bots > Players in GW. ![]() Unless you get a good guild. (Basically it's easier to 'solo' missions than it is to find people to help - Whereas in WoW, you NEED players to complete most of the interesting stuff) In WoW, until you find a good guild - Your friends list will fill of capable players much quicker ![]() Not played the rest, know peeps who have tried LOTR, loved the beta, didn't like it much post-beta. |
