    Smile Hellgate London

Upgrading, well purchasing a new system to be precise, to welcome in Hellgate London to my life.

Anyone else planning to jump aboard the Flagship monster?

Oh yes, but just for the single player. Not interested in Multiplayer from when they mentioned they are going to charge for the service

I'm interested but i think i'll see what the online community will be like first, also waiting for some reviews and the nda on beta testers to be waived so i can have a good dig around on whether its my kind of game.

I loved diablo but it would take something special for me to leave guild wars behind.

Anyone playing this yet, Beta / Demo? I played the demo last night, and it was quite fun. Bit worried about how long its shelf life would be.

Been playing this over the weekend, with 4600X2 and 7800GTX combo...

I've had to turn the graphics settings down (Low-Med settings) as all the eye candy in the close combat sections drove frame rate down to single numbers (single numbers... read 1 fps or so!), although ranged combat was fine with eye candy on (Med-High).

Initially had misgivings, but now I'm beginning to really enjoy it. Still early to tell on longevity (3 toons at level 7 is hardly hardcore gaming!), but I can't wait to get home to play more! Just a shame that the missus wants to go to the cinema tonite!

Strange... I'm running it on an S939 4200x2 @ 2.66 ghz with a 7800gt 256meg at stock at 1280 x 1024, and have most stuff, except dynamic lights and shadows, on high without a problem.

Got it over the weekend. Took a while to get into it, but behind the odd rough edge, its actually really good fun. Got my Engineer to lvl 10 so far

I thought this looked interesting but the review in PCGamer was a little underwhelming... Looks like I might pass after all.

i was an alpha tester for this game, and i have to say having played the alpha, beta and demo, it never has grabbed my attention, i was hoping that with each successive installment i would ultimately find something good in the gameplay that would grab me, shake me, turn me upside down and make me want to jump for joy, and there was nothing of the sort...

while it is graphically sound and the soundtrack is good the gameplay is very repetative throughout the game and less fun than other similar games to the genre.

When announced there would be a subscription model, my friends who were all interested in the game were put off buying it, many are avid RPG fans and most have played MMORPG's but do not think that this game would justify their money just to play MP. The subscription model makes the company seem hungry for revenue now a days with everyone flooding the mmorpg market.

nether the less there will be people who like and people who dislike it, if youre unsure about it download the demo and experience for yourself

We've got our take on it here : Review :: Hellgate: London - PC

There is a free MMO mode which is perfectly fine. All the subscription does is unlock more stuff, which, if I'm honest, only the most avid of players will want.

I have to say that having played the demo of this game I wouldn't reccomend this game to anyone that isnt an avid fan of this exact type of steampunk 'guns, steam and magic' rpg. I read in one review that hellgate is a 'looker', unless by 'looker' they mean 'looks crappy next to any good 3d game since 2002', that is a lie, or at the least the reviewer hasnt experienced any good graphics which seems unlikely for a game reviewer. It looks poor. The enemies and other characters look superimposed on the background and are badly animated, the environments look pretty unintersting and the lighting is particularly uninspired. This is with all graphics settings on high etc. I could go on.

I'd go with the crappy animations. ie: That one arm's-windmilling-flailing zombie that looks like it should be SPRINTING towards you, but is, in reality, kind of ambling.

I just realised it was a hexus review that said it is a looker. Oops. OK maybe not a lie, but maybe need to take off the rose tinted glasses.

What system are you playing it on?

I thought the outside areas were pretty good, loads of debris and yes, though there was the usual short-cut 'pile of rubble' there was plenty of boxes, cars, broken street lamps all over the pace.

I think I did say that the underground sections were bland and dull by comparison.

I was playing on my pc with the spec on the left. My 27" samsung monitor makes most games look fantastic.

The outdoor bits maybe look better than the tunnels which you rightly said were dull and I would say repetitive. However the outdoor parts give no feeling of being outdoor even in a hellish permanight and just really looked uninteresting and failed to engage my imagination.
