WoW - Guilds, Raids and Friends

    Hi There,

I was recently suckered into WoW by a friend who I've known for years. After seeing me play a little, the misses started to play as well.

We ended up joining a guild because they were a bunch of friendly guys and hugely helpful with instances, materials, money loans, the whole kit and ka-boodle really.

My dilemma is this; I'm a couple of hours away from hitting lvl 70 and have enjoyed my time so far. I have however got several offers from other friends in WoW to join larger more raid orientated guilds.

Whilst I want to stay loyal to my original guild, and RL friends (not the mention the misses!!) I will find it hard to get any decent lvl70 gear unless i just grind PvP with a couple of mates.

What do I do!! Ditch the friends and go raiding for goodies? Or stay loyal and accept a slower rate of getting good things at 70?

Maybe I go with one of the half way house options which would be A) leave the guild temporarily and go raiding with another, get some kit and then leave!! (probably frowned upon) or maybe B) go on a recruiting drive with the existing guild (but the likelihood of getting anyone serious when we don't have many active players is low )

    Any ideas/opinions/offers!!

Re: WoW - Guilds, Raids and Friends

i quit wow at christmas as i didnt get a personal life because of it
basically the best bet if you are playing the game for gear is in this lil guide:

PVP - if you are playing for player combat then grind PVP BG's and arena, its equipment is obviously spec'd for aiding you against other players via Resilience and resists while at the same time giving your main attributes a boost.

PVP - done through raids, it takes the same amount of time to aquire the gear from this as 99% of guilds work on DKP (like a guild pay cheque, check google for it if you dont know what it is) most of PVE gear will work in player combat but will not be as effective for most classes and is primary boosting your role in PVE raids.

also, what i did on my paladin was this: joined a guild, did my raid days for DKP and my PVE upgrades while on off raid nights i would do arenas with a friend to get a decent rating and get some PVP items. Luckily for a paladin - the best damage and healing spec is holy so i didnt have to change my spec every night to adjust to PVP or PVE where as alot of classes will have to change.

hope that helps, any other questions or i didnt answer anything, let me know

Re: WoW - Guilds, Raids and Friends

Stick with the friends, in the end, thats what will keep you in wow - the community aspect of it. You might find a raiding guild a bit elitist!

Also, don't rush things Get to 70, get some blues, and a few pvp items... then do heroics, see all the awesome level 70 content. Maybe even do a Kara PUG, I've had lots of success running PUG kara raids.

Personally I've raided in the past and didn't enjoy it. I hit 70 a while ago after re-starting wow. Firstly I got myself all blue from the normal dungoes and rep rewards, I then picked up 4 pvp items (2 weapons, neck, belt ...useful in PvE too), then a few epics from Kara. Taking a break for a few months now, as I've seen all the 70 content apart from raiding!

    i would stay.

the guild i am in has moved towards raiding, and the guild has fallen apart because of that.

pug kara, or form an alliance with another guild allowing you to do it together.
do some of the more interesting stuff you missed (there was a post on the wow forums a while ago with loads of interesting stuff to do)
(edit, found it ) WoW-Europe.com Forums -> Bored at 70? Try this...
do some arena and battlegrounds, you can get some nice kit from that, and you could easily do 2v2 with your wife (if she likes that sort of thing)

raiding can be fun, but its stressfull and you end up spending alot of time and money re-equipping youself for the next raid which i find a pain in the arse if i'm honest

    I think that's a resounding stay with the guild/friends then :]

I like the suggestions of building the blues and epics over heriocs and pvp's etc whilst keeping with the guild.

I built up 30k of PvP honor so far, and may hit some of the BG's before turning 70 to pick up the tokens to get a decent weapon straight away :]

I've got some lower level characters, so will keep trying to get them up and maybe end up with a couple of 70's in time for WOTLK

I'd stick with the guild you are in - at least it stops arguments with the Missus

sticking with friends will only get you so far in an MMO in most cases.
sad but true, if its the content you want then fine but the raiding aspect needs more than just friends in most cases

However - when the better-half is also playing .. sticking with that side can avoid some fun arguments

"rookie mistake, yer, yer hate to see it"

but one point i forgot to mention is - if your going to make WoW a a long runner for your gaming future - dont put your heart and soul into it just yet, not with WOTLK soon to be released as all your end game gear will be worth diddley and not worth the grind you made getting it.

Yeah I'm thinking about saving my pvp points and just getting the cash for epic flying mounts etc then just gearing averagely and waiting for WOTLK

I want a Crystalforged Sword cos I can't be arsed to farm Shadow Labs for horrid sword of dreams, so I'll get that and some reasonable blues, get an epic flyer and then just farm for money and pvp honour ready for WOTLK

Will get my druid and priest up in the mean time, who knows, maybe even my warrior!!
