    Neverwinter

A few months ago I saw Neverwinter, an MMO based on the Neverwinter world. As I loved NWN2 so much.I thought I would give it a try. Sadly, I never got around to playing it.

This weekend I was a bit bored and checked Steam for their latest releases and Neverwinter was featured. As a FTP game I thought what the hell and installed it. A couple of hours later (after patching et al) I was playing it.

It's been a long time since I was impressed at such a polished, but reasonably newly released game. The graphics are good, the controls are good, the combat is awesome (think TERA if you have ever played it) and the first couple of hours playing have been quite interesting.

However, looking around the web there has been a lot of negativity posted about this game, especially with reference to the FTP model. Most FTP games have some kind of leveling boost if you pay for it, so I am aware that this will probably be a grind, but so what if I am enjoying it, right? I have only played for a couple of hours though and I am only level 5 so my thoughts may change later on.

I am just wondering if anyone else here plays, and likes, Neverwinter? What are your thoughts on the game and it's FTP model? Are you at level 60 and if so, what is end game like?

I have no idea if there are different servers, and if so, which one I am on, but if you play gimme a shout in game, my character name is Allen Jameson.

    Re: Neverwinter

It sounds cool enough, so I might give it a look.
I am a fan of Baldurs Gate, Dragon Age and so on... but there mere mention of Drizzt Do'Urden just makes me sigh and start looking elsewhere, heh heh!

For now, I just started playing Skyrim, so I have all that to get through first. Damn Steam keeps having massive sales on stuff and I haven't even touched the games I got in my Never Settle bundle!

    Re: Neverwinter

I gave Neverwinter a go a few months ago and 3-4 hours of play over a couple classes and it just didn't grab me but can't really remember why.

Was about to start a new thread on this, so glad I did a quick forum search

I've only played a few hours so far (just hit level 6) but I'm definitely enjoying Neverwinter - I love Forgotten Realms in general and I read a couple of the Drizzt Neverwinter saga novels while on holiday last year, so it's quite nice to know a bit of the background to the game world Controls are OK - combat feels a bit simplistic for a D&D based game but works well enough, and I've been quite pleased that soloing the early quests isn't too hard with a Wizard!

So, is anyone else playing? I've not seen anything that's made me want to spend any cash on this so far, there's obviously a premium currency but it doesn't seem to matter at all at lower levels, and it'd be nice to get a party together (not that I want some tanks to keep the zombies off me, obviously ). Could be good for a laugh

    Re: Neverwinter

Gave up on it a while ago.....there was something missing from it and the grind starts early.

My main gripe was that I wanted (needed) 2 sets of gear and space was limited and extra slots cost a LOT of money for a virtual place to put your virtual item......all other aspects of the FTP model I found was ok (especially as you can buy nVidia-marketed 1m astral diamonds for around 6-7quid which is a very cheap way to get a decent level of gear)...but the cost for space was probably the overwhelming reason to stop playing.
