    56k Vs Broadband

I'm going to be losing my BB connection in three days and it'll take about three weeks to get a new one set up. I know in the requirements for WoW it states that a 56k internet connection is sufficient, does anyone know how it actually plays using this?

I haven't tried tbh, but I can imagine you'll have a lower ping and therefore a little bit of lag every now and then.

I'd just make sure you're not using anything else, ie TS, and turn off the local channels to see if that helps.

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

I've heard 56k is fine, not tried it myself but the data transfer doesn't look to be that high from my experiences.

Thanks. Can't say I'm looking forward to going back to 56k but with a choice between that and staying with Tiscali, I'll go slow for a few weeks.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Again I have heard multiple reports that it is fine playing it on 56k. You can be the Hexus Horde first! Let us know how you get on

Wow, I'm going to achieve a first in the guild - shame it's the slowest internet connection but beggars can't be choosers. I would like to thank my parents, without whom I wouldn't have been given the opportunity to subscribe to an internet connection, to my friends who helped me along the way, to God, without whom there would be no internet.....

Seriously though, perhaps you can help. I've posted in the connectivity forum but replies are sparse. Can anyone recommend a good, cheap BB provider? I'm looking at UK Online, Demon, MadasaFish or maybe Freedom 2 Surf. UK Online look the best as they offer 2mb, unlimited, free connection for £29.99 a month. The rest only offer 1mb in my price range and most are free connection but does anyone have any advice? I've looked at ADSL guide and it has been helpful but I just need a little extra help. Thanks.

I'm mid house moving (doing up my flat, living with parents) so no ADSL. I had been using Vispa's dialup which is mince (ADSL was great from them). I nicked my Dad's freeserve details and it's great. I used to get random lockups of connection with Vispa, but FS has been fine, I will sign up for my own account. I'm using PayG (ie you pay for the calls). It's not going to beat ADSL, but it is playable.

Interestingly WoW seems to be incredibly tolerant of hardware, my mate's PC is hoofed at the moment so he's playing on his GFs laptop using Intel Xtreme graphics and it is playable (just).

Don't get CPBB Beach - i've had nothing but problems with it. Pipex is the best imho as the contentsion ratio is great.
There is also an IRC ch called #pipex for help.

I'm going to reveal hereto unseen levels of ignorance and ask "CPBB"? that would be.....

I like the look of Pipex, and I think it's only an extra £4 a month (33.99 for 1mb) but I've got to get it past the missus first. The "it's only..." argument rarely works

edit: Freedom 2 surf looks a winner 2mb with a 50gb cap is only £24.99 a month and I've been reading a lot of good things about them
