    Guild Wars: HEXUS.net Guild website

feedback on layout & design please!

    http://guildwars.apebox.org

before anyone comments, the color scheme is based on the lush & pretty lands of Kryta - it's that or be like every other GW website on the net, and go for red/brown/black

i tried a sand & water color scheme with Trippledence, it didn't work out. I've changed the text color from black to offwhite, i'm starting to warm to it that way

I like the offwhite text stops the site from looking too dark. I think the next challenge is the headers. I think we should get some silver in there. Or gild akin to the Guildwars text.

I'm liking that so far dude. Not too keen on the nav buttons, they're boring (unless they're just acting as placeholders for now?)

    everything can be replaced.

it's cost my my CSS validation, but I have it mostly working in MSIE. the buttons on the far right are misaligned, but it could be worse.

I don't think any other colour would go as well tbh if you really think about it

Aftersugesting it, i got directhex to try the sand colour from the screenshot at the top, it didnt work nearly as well. No the green might not look the best face value, but with a few pcitures breakign it up, and the white text it think it is the best solution.

Im sure any other sugestions would be apriciated.

good news everyone: i've hacked it into rendering fine in MSIE.

    that means, as it stands:

    gecko: perfect
    khtml: perfect (tweaked)
    mshtml: perfect (evil CSS hacks)
    opera: almost perfect

as for the greenness... this is gonna remain a bone of contension, i think. i'm not usually prone to using green at all (my site, apebox.org, shows my usual color choices), but i felt that Kryta was a noble goal for design.

the navigation buttons, like everything else, ARE open to change. what i was thinking was giving them a border, and an alpha'd background - a bit like http://guildwars.apebox.org/flibble.jpg but cleaner.

i'm a fan of clean understated lines rather than ornate pattens, so that's what i'm proposing - but i'd love to hear some alternative suggestions

The backgrond on the navi buttons looks nice, i think the site will look better when the text is broken up by a few images.

okay, this is my first "serious" version, one i think is generally "done"

it should work in most browsers you can throw at it

if people are generally happy, i can start work on the php/mysql back-end

i've done a little more work on the actual design:

:first-letter pseudostyle, so new paragraphs have bolder, bigger first letters automatically. i think it looks nice

a.navigate links - the navigation area now has rollovery hyperlinks, please give feedback

text-align - text is now justified, makes it look nice & pro

a links - i'm not at all sure what to do with this, how does the underline-overline rollovers look?

there are many things that can be done with links et al, so more feedback the better.
