Just bought guildwars. Best place to start?
To be honest, don't know a huge amount about this game at the moment(I know basically what it's about but don't know much about playing it yet, bought it based on the huge response this game got from the forum, reviews etc).
Just bought and installed this(not yet got as far as creating a character yet). Want some pointers on best way to start(ie best character combinations etc). Is is best to join a guild straight away(as I will want to join the hexus guild at some point) or play for a while then join. Should I dive right into the game or is it worthwhile reading the manuals etc before starting. Any other tips/suggestions appreciated.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Just read the character descriptions, and decide what you like best. I've played through all the classes, and still like my original choice the best!
The beginning of the game leads you into playing properly very well, so there's no real need to read the manual (although it does give you some of the backstory).
"Well, there was your Uncle Tiberius who died wrapped in cabbage leaves but we assumed that was a freak accident."

there is no wrong choice for professions, each combination has advantages and disadvantages.
im a monk/warrior (lvl20) and always get invited into random groups for missions, but people can sometimes expect a lot to you...if they run off and die i yell at them and tell them to stop being a useless noobs, or something and dont res them for a while ^_^ it is mainly a full support char though, but you can go smiting, which is quite powerful. its good because you can change your attribute points and skills about freely to decide what loadout you want. quite often now i go for protection skills, and sometimes a smiting build...someones got to do some damage, not those useless warriors ![]() your welcome into the guild anytime, and i recommend you do it sooner rather than later (im sure an officer will read this thread and invite you) so we can help you through the beginning missions and give you items if you need. plus if you decide you dont like your original character choice, you can change and get back up to where you where faster with us helping

Only place we cant help you out is where you start Pre Searing as once you move over to Post Searing theres no going back.
Go for a build that you feel comfortable with. I went for Warrior / Monk as thats what I normally play on RPG's. Got a 2nd character that is a Elementalist / Mesmer, chose that combination so when I get high level with him he will do loads of damage ! |

when i started i found being a warrior as main skill means you can just sit there whiles stuff is beating on your and it doesnt really hurt to much
i got ranger as my second skill which again was not really a bad choice, you get a heal over time spell which you can put on before u battle and just keep on fightin whiles your health goes up very handy! also to have a really nice high dmg shot with ur pow to pull them over to you
