any point in asking whether an AGP version of the 4870 card at any point? no.. i thought not..

nice to see the low price point for the AMD's, might tempt alot of people to buy them... just hope they release them on time and have no hardware bugs..

NVIDIA needs a whoopin' to stop it releasing semi-pointless interim cards that only serve to keep us confused...

Have to wonder whether $229 is a RRP or street price and what the likely street price will be in UK inc VAT....

4850 is likely to be great value and also low power consumption (10W idle) compared to Nvidia's power hungry (and perhaps more powerful) cards. Ultimate performance isn't all things to all men!

Easiest way to work out the maximum damage they're likely to sting you for is simply to change the dollar symbol into a pound sign

    It's what Apple do anyway!

That said, it's likely to be competitive with Nvidia, so i would guess about the 160 price point?

There's an AGP version of the 3850 so maybe they'll do a 4850 in time.

But they won't get one and instead it's likely they'll keep dominance at the high-margin end of things.

Whats the most powerful and newest CPU that runs on an AGP board?

IIRC there were some socket 939 AGP boards so an x2 4200+?
If thats the case then who cares about a 4850 AGP. It'll be far cheaper to buy a new motherbaord, 4 squillion GB RAM and a faster CPU and you'll still have enough money to buy a PCIe 4850 and have spent less than the AGP one

I run an X2 4400 on an AGP capable board. The FX60 is the most powerful you can run I think.

The 3850 AGP doesn't cost much more than the PCI one - certainly not the price of a new board, CPU, memory and OS.

It was an exaggeration but its still pointless pairing an ultra modern fast GFX card with everything else thats over 4 years old.

Completely, respectfully, disagree. A 3850 pairs very nicely with socket 939 chips.

At 1680x1050 I am totally GPU bound with my 1950xt, and would be still with a 3850 on many titles.
