Is there truly a need for an altered PSU form factor? No. Particularly when this is going to a larger rather than smaller PSU enclosure. Better engineering is arguably required, though it probably isn't possible to make those particular components any smaller.

Frankly, if it improves cooling, is quieter, provides more stable voltages or does anything even vaguely better than similarly priced high-end PSUs (against which a £100+ price tag doesn't look horribly out of place), then it's hard to argue against it. I don't think it'll replace ATX, but it might become a new high-end standard for those splashing out on high-quality large cases anyway...

If they bundle the PSU with a nice case for say...£150, I would certainly consider it.

No I don't think there is a need for it. But crazy modders/overclockers might want it to squeeze every last drop of performance out of their rig.

Edit* I would certainly buy an Antec/Corsair mATX PSU.

So far this PSU only fits the Antec 900.2, 1200, P1000 and P183, two of those are yet to be released.
Even without knowing how well the PSU performs, its still rather expensive for something that will only fit specific cases.

having a 120mm fan blow directly through with no obstacles will allow for better cooling with less noise.

I wouldn't mind getting one of these to go in my 1200. I was going to get a sig series 850 but it's so damn expensive. This looks like a much better option.

Right, but they need to wake up and realise that tweaking and modding are just gratuitous hobbies for their own sake.. they are not actually productive activities. Their benefit to the world comes in the fact that they spend plenty of cash and encourage manufacturers to innovate. All I'm saying is if this gets popular, it would push innovation in the wrong direction - toward larger rather than smaller products.

I'm still saddened by the fact the SFF sector was abandoned by all but Shuttle. If only that had taken off properly..

Does it really affect performance except in circumstances where the PSU is faulty?

Anyway I can't see this selling much as the market for them is pretty limited.

I dont think is a total bad idea because this increased PSU size allow the possibility to install bigger/larger internal PSU heatsinks and finally get rid of the old legacy noisy 80mm size fans inside the PSU , this new form factor must be a good news for PC Power & Cooling PSU
