That got your attention didn't it! We've already seen that Pentium M works great in desktops as well as notebooks, but desktop motherboards for them are few and far between. An adapter from ASUS sorts that out.

It looks like it was designed to avoid the mounting "thingies" - but I've never actually fitted a P4 HSF so I don't know.

Dammit, Powerleap threatened to make one of these for ages, why the hell didn't they if it was actually possible? Anyway, wait till the boys at XS get hold of this, I reckon the FX55 might not be on top of the ORB for much longer....

Edit: actually there's quite a lot of circuitry there. I wonder if it introduces any extra latency?

Well it has its own power connector, so I'm gussing maybe it has an onboard clock generator, judging by the chip in the top right. Not sure though.

Why would anyone want a laptop chip in my desktop?? Isnt that like forcing a lawnmower engine in to my car?

Hmm. There are a whole bunch of chips on it. I'd google for what they are if I could find a higher res pic.

The main difference between S478 and S479 chips is apparently the signalling voltage; the bus data protocols (or whatever they're called) are the same. I just wonder how this adaptor can increase the signalling without buffering the signal somehow.

Just read a few. Hmm so it puts out some good scores but seriously surely its not worth an investment.

A 3500+ mb/cpu rig not-overclocked is superior in all scenarios I use would ever use (like who plays doom3 in 640x480). I dont see it as a good solution when there are very reasonable deals on AMD 3500+ upgrades (thanks komplett!)
