AMD Dual Core Processor Plans @ PC Perspective

Intel had a lot of dual core technology to talk about at IDF and of course we've known about AMD going dual core for a while, but AMD were the first of the two to demonstrate a dual core processor. So, this begs the question: now that Intel are unleashing a mass of dual core products, what are AMD up to? PC Perspective find out.
They will be releasing dual core Opterons in the next couple of months and following that up with desktop Athlon 64 dual core processors sometime in the second half of the year. For AMD it does make more sense to release the dual core parts to the server/workstation market first, as those areas are the ones that have the multi-threaded applications to take full advantage of the additional power.

You can do that anyway... just slowly.

When more SMP enabled programs come out they'll use both processors anyway, so you won't have the benefit of one core working while the other waits for you to do something else.
