HEXUS.beans :: AMD Turion 64 set to speed ahead of Intel's 'Yonah'?
AMD64 Dual-Core processors in notebooks too?
Digitimes is commenting upon the commercial lead that the AMD Turion 64 processor (ultra-low voltage 64-bit mobile CPU for notebooks), launched yesterday, will have over Intel's own 64-bit mobile offering. Apparently Intel's own iAMD64 mobile processor, codenamed 'Yonah' is expected to ship in Q2 2006. As Microsoft still seems set to launch its Windows XP 64-bit Edition this quarter, any notebook manufacturer featuring products based upon the AMD64 architecture - such as AMD's Turion 64 - is likely to have an important lead, perhaps by almost half a year, into corporate accounts, and those where the advantages of 64-bit processing will initially have the most impact. Might we even see AMD 64-bit Dual-Core processors finding their way into notebooks too? Do bears **** in the woods? We'll be more than surprised if, during the course of the coming months, the likes of Alienware, SavRow, Voodoo PC and specialist video editing system builders such as DVC (Digital Video computing), don't introduce AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core based desktop replacements for professionals who need mobile workstations that can exploit multi-threaded applications. A bit of source - Loads of sauce got a thought to share? please comment below...

I don't trust AMD's first "real" attempt at a notebook platform to come anywhere close to Centrino personally. There's a lot more to a notebook than raw speed.
