    Creative announces new audio technology

Today, Creative have announced their latest audio technology developments, named Xtreme Fidelity and the X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processer. What's all this about then?
The combination of Xtreme Fidelity and the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor provides dramatic improvements to the recording and playback of MP3 music, accelerates and improves PC game play, enhances listening experiences for movies, and improves the capabilities, performance and quality of audio creation.
Xtreme Fidelity is Creative's latest audio 'standard', setting out requirements such as 24-bit resolution, a minimum of 110db SNR and support for Creative's latest surround sound speaker/headphone technology. The purpose? Better sounding audio, according to creative. Furthermore, users will be able to 'upgrade' their sound libraries, CDs and other media to the new Xtreme Fidelity standard.

Of course, none of this is possible without the new X-Fi audio processor, which can handle the specs for Xtreme Fidelity.
The Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor has more than 51 million transistors, and is capable of 10,000+ MIPS. The Creative X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity audio processor is 24 times more powerful than its predecessor, and is designed with multiple engines, so it can dynamically direct resources through a modular architecture to completely change the way audio is managed for any application.
EAX gets another update too, which will please some gamers.

So, power processing, demanding standards, and the ability to 'upgrade' MP3s to the Xtreme Fidelity standard? Given MP3's lossy nature, I have to wonder just how useful this is going to be, but that remains to be seen... or heard.

Creative will be showing their new creations off at E3, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it during the event. Meanwhile, you may want to read Creative's full press release for more info.
