    Podcasts through iTunes

I'm not trendy enough to be into podcasts, but apparently they're the new way of listening to shows and event coverage... just download an audio file and play it back. Apple's new version of iTunes supports the downloading of podcasts. Bodacious!
Their rising popularity is challenging conventional radio's broadcasting and business model. As a result, many radio stations such as the BBC are making their shows available as downloadable MP3 files.

Apple first announced it was tapping into the demand for podcasts last month, when its boss Steve Jobs showed how iTunes would let people access, organise and sync-up shows to any digital music player.

lord, someone please destroy the term "podcast". it's possibly the worst word ever created

and someone tell me, how is downloading spoken-word to listen to later in any way interesting, innovative or trendy?

    BECAUSE IT'S AN IPOD GODDAMMIT!

Most people probably didn't know that they could listen to music on the go until the holy iPod arrived on the scene, so if someone tells them it's cool, they lap it up.

I quite like This Week in Tech though, even if the guys opinions on certain issues are crap.

Intersting....you can now download mp3s of bbc radio, whereas they insist on using real player for streaming...

    Podcasts prove popular

    1 million podcast subscriptions... wow.
Apple Computer Inc. on Thursday said iTunes podcast subscriptions topped 1 million in the two days since the company launched the service.

"The best page in the universe" has this to say:

Podcast: Someone had the revolutionary idea of taking a compressed audio file and putting it online. Yeah, doesn't sound so sexy when I describe it for what it is, does it you morons? It would have been a great idea if streaming audio wasn't already around for over a decade before the word "podcast" entered the lexicon. Man, I can't stand the word "lexicon." Talking about all these ****ty words has made me start using ****ty words. I'm so pissed, I just slammed the door shut on some kid's nuts.

Podcasting: It's snob for "streaming audio."
    QFT tbh...

Podcasts are a great idea, I don't actually use them as I don't have a portable hard disk player.

But I have a half hour walk to work and rather then listening to music, I could get podcasts from places like www.hackaday.com to listen to.

Right so its an mp3 then.
Because downloading them and putting them onto an mp3 player wasnt cool enough for iGayers they had to invent their own words? Whilst they are creating their own language can they create their own planet so they get off mine and stop annoying me?

    wow...stressy mini rant...been a long day today...
