When the price comes down, in around 3-6 months, I'll probably buy one of these.
Why buy an ipod phone?
I have two ipods, one a mp4 player and the other a normal mp3 player... both use that stupid i-tunes software and none of them are simple to use. I have heard various reviews stating that the ipod phone is just an mp3 player with a phone attached, surely if ipod were such a great company they would add this feature onto existing ipods like they do with the FM radio add-ons etc that they already sell..
IMO... a lot of hype and a phone that is substandard,, and i have seen one.. Yes the screen is good but it won't be long before nokia is there with a better version.. screw the ipcrap i will wait for nokia..
Combine the features of the iPod Touch with the storage and battery life of the new iPod Classic and I'd be interested. Anyone got a soldering iron and some tape?
Im on the look out for a new MP3 player this might just fit teh bill.

yes!!!! cant wait.
gonna get the 8gb model... and sell my 30gb ipod on hexus soon !
Why does it just take the most minor of references to the iPhone to set people like you off on mindless, unoriginal, repetitive rants? Alongside Youtube and Digg comments, posts bitching about the iPhone are one of the most tedious things on the Internet. Did you even read the article this thread is for?
I'd say the real potential of the iPhone and the iPod touch will need to wait for homebrew software, and for that to catch on Apple will need to give a blessing otherwise it will be just like the PSP stuff, for people with computer knowledge and patience (and the sense not to put every update on).
Agreed
I've played with one of these today - oh my word they are incredibly slick & thin - just wish they had more space
I was in town yesterday and took a look at these in the Apple Store (they only had the 4 and 8Gb models). I can confirm that reports of problems with the screens are correct - deep blacks have their levels bumped up so they appear brighter than the surrounding areas. This is likely due to a problem with the screen's look-up table and probably fixable with a firmware update.
I also noticed that the iPod Classics they had on display were skipping badly when you scrolled through coverflow and hadn't been updated to the latest version (which fixes this and makes the whole machine a lot faster) - not exactly the best way to demo them.
I make a point of not buying brand new tech until the second revision comes out, had my fingers burnt tioo many times with dodgy build quality or software problems that take the manufacturers too long to fix.
I'm also not sure how the touch is going to work for my preferences, i like to hold my nano in my pocket and skip through songs with the click wheel, how am i supposed to do this with a touch screen? I'd have to take it out and see where i'm pressing.
Seems more style than substance to me so far.

Apple has admitted that some of the iPod Touch screens are faulty and has said it is working on a fix. Someone claiming to be an LCD engineer posted to one of the Apple Support forums speculating that the anti-reflective coating had been left off a batch of them in the production rush, though I still suspect a LUT problem.
