I wouldn't describe the quoted "6 hours" as average in such a laptop. Consider how little space for battery cells there are, and I'd go as far as calling it impressive. Of course, it won't reach 6 hours of use, but you don't buy such a laptop to have a big 12-cell battery hanging out the back.

I suppose they could have made better use of that space vacated by the optical drive to increase it though.
