Good news We pretty knew it was going to RTM before the end of the year. Good to see a rough date for retail

    Hi,

Is this release date for computer systems, assembled by distributors, and not at the general public until some time later?

    regards

The OP says "suggesting it'll reach retail in time for Christmas", so that would be when you can buy a copy in a shop. it'll go to OEMs and partners earlier.

I'm almost frightened to ask (no, I "AM" frightened to ask)

As many thousands (millions?) around the globe are enjoying Windows7 "Ultimate" for free.

Any ideas how much be be stung (sorry I mean how much will be have to pay) for the full version of this when it launches and our machines start rebooting every 2 hours?

My best guess is that you look at the launch prices of both XP and Vista (they were both pretty similar despite what the mainstream media might like to lead you to believe) and expect something similar. If it's cheaper then it's a bonus to the consumer. Anyone expecting Ultimate for £20 is in for a massive wake up call if you ask me.

Well I will be looking forward to Windows 7 but don't have plans on buying it in a hurry.
