if windows 7 sells well microsoft will think they have done a good job and there OS is good. if you dont buy it you will force them to make it better.
So in other words, we should put up with an inferior (by comparison) OS just just to spite Microsoft? No thanks. I - like most other people here - want to benefit from the new features and improvements Windows 7 will bring. I don't see the point in boycotting them like that when they have actually released a good, solid OS. The time to boycott was with Vista, which is exactly why they've made 7. You're a bit late to the game.

There'd be no motivation for them to make Windows 7 good if they were going to release it for free.

Does anyone know if the Home Premium version stops you installing VirtualBox/VirtualPC etc type applications?

When you read the information on Windows XP Mode it reads as if unless your version of Windows 7 supports Windows XP Mode you can't install any VirtualBox/VirtualPC etc type software?

    TIA

There's nothing to stop you using that software, but you don't get the Virtual PC Win XP image (and license to use it) with other versions, so you'd need an XP license that was valid to use (ie not an OEM one)

    Hello,
I have used windows vista for quite along time now.
There isnt to much improvement from vista>7
its faster and somethings in 7 should of been sorted ages ago.
for example if you change settings they are saved after 30seconds to allow to multiple changes to be saved in one go. in all the other versions of windows changes arent saved until you logout and sometimes dont save properly thats why sometimes you see your old desktop background before it changes to the newone when you login. thats been a bug since at least 2K.

the main thing that annoys me about windows is that after software installs and uninstalls the registry starts to cause issues and windows slows down after a time. where as with anyother operating system i can installl and uninstall as much software as i like without any slowdown at all.

windows 7 may be the best version of windows ever but it still has some of the issues windows has always had.
MS has resourses to finaly sort out the bugs that have plauged Windows since the beginin yet they deliver the same rubbish...

Re: News - UK Windows 7 pre-orders begin tomorrow, will you be placing an order?

I might go for the pre-order, I thought the Virtual XP was really good until I tried using the one piece of software that was incompatible with my W7 installation on it- some older CAD software and realised there wasn't a cat in hell's chance I was going to be able to use it satisfactorily without proper 3D drivers.

Then realised I could just run XP on my Ubuntu boot in VirtualBox OSE, and with a bit of tweaking everything's running smoothly. £50 is a fair price for me, first window's OS I'll have bought!

I'll be pre-ordering myself - getting the Home Premium version as I doubt I'll ever need to make use of the virtual XP feature. I'm actually intending to get this in advance of a planned upgrade next year, and for £50 it seems a bargain that I wouldn't want to miss out on.

Re: News - UK Windows 7 pre-orders begin tomorrow, will you be placing an order?

Want a copy for my media pc, if only for the newer media centre. However, torn between the sweet £50 price point for a single HP, and holding out for a family pack, which means I can dual boot my main rig, and also have it on my file server and also the media PC...

Can I be patient... or will I be kicking myself...

Re: News - UK Windows 7 pre-orders begin tomorrow, will you be placing an order?

I originally ordered from ebuyer, even with their poor del system which is fail for pre-orders. I then got a stock warning, and on accoutn page it said what do i want to do its out of stock. No notice it was on pre-order, and they had taken my money! :O

So I was on play, refreshing and caught it, in search results, before even the page got updated, through checkout it still said coming soon, so id like to think im one on the first

Anywho, it now says pre-order on play.com's accoutn page for me, so its just the long 3 month wait till its released.

I don't think Play.com take the money until they ship the goods, either which is nice.

Just to let ya guys know, seems amazon are doing home premium at £45 and prof at £90, least at the moment. You won't get it free first class delivery for that though just normal lol.
