Not convinced that this is the right way to go, it seems a bit like imposing your laws in other countries - something that's never sat right with me.

Hmmm not sure leglisation that demands companies ignore legislation in another country that they operate in is such a good idea.
Clearly the issue of net censorship needs solving, but I don't see how this will help.
My immediate gut reaction ..... the legislation is a good idea, though I see why Google etc wouldn't like it.

Although I agree with the legislation it does seem a bit American Crusade! Saving the world and getting the girl!
Perhaps the legislation should stop American companies handing over information to authoritarian regimes, I remember a case a while back where Google handed information over to Chinese authorities about political activists.
