Manufacturing both hardware and developing software makes a lot of sense in a way you can test against every possibility out there. Only Apple is doing it at the moment (or is big enough to be noticed)

I'm not saying Android will flop, it will become more buggy and unstable that it already is.

I kinda dislike the mess with keeping it all up-to-date. You should really be able to update as soon as the newest version becomes available, as opposed to waiting for Google, your telephone providers etc.

There should be a standard what runs which version and why it's not available (if applicable) I seem to recall someone saying (here?) what certain (game?) wasn't available on one device and was on the other - both running Android but most likely different versions (?)
Yes because thats why Apple's desktop market share is erm shall we say within the margin of error for measurement of windows users? In otherwords statistically insignificant.

But of course that is due to their OS been awful to develop for. Its very intresting how people like who've been at the kool aid are not programmers at all.

Apple made their Safari browser hardware accelerated, on erm windows. Turns out, thanks to the OS's excellent kernel design (VAX guys) and the HAL for the graphics subsystem with sterling work from AMD, nVidia and Intel with MS, have made it EASIER to write software on all of the combinations we see in the wild, than Apple have for there 2 different combos.

A nice example of why your view is bollocks.

This isn't discussion about Apple mate, its about Android and they way the market is currently going.
Apple just happens to be the doing both hardware and software out of probably many out there (which we never heard of?)

I could easily say - your post is 'bollocks' because you have picked one part of my sentence and driven it towards Apple fanboys vs. Windows discussion.

Sorry, and why isn't this discussion about Apple - seeing as that was what the original article was on? Personally, I thought the discussion was about Apple's slammed-closed method versus Googles wandering-open one.

Actually it was you who drove the discussion that way - specifically by saying "Its only matter of time before Android will go belly up because they want to support every hardware configuration out there... just like Windows..."

Actually, I'm going to agree with TheAnimus (presumably an Assasin's Creed fan) - you seem to have totally misunderstood the way that Android is done. You said "Manufacturing both hardware and developing software makes a lot of sense in a way you can test against every possibility out there. Only Apple is doing it at the moment (or is big enough to be noticed)"

Google does the base operating system and then the vendors take that base and develop it the way they want. I've seen figures - granted these are statistics - that less than 40% of any phone's software component comes from Google.

In fact, your original statement was correct - Android does resemble the way that Windows is done - albeit it would if NVidia, AMD, Creative Labs, did PC's as well. And yes, Apple's way of propagating OS changes is more desirable, but we've got to live with the "old fashioned" way that it's done for 'droid.

On the upside though - while the fanboi's will continue to buy iPhone 5/6/7/... I am totally convinced that 'droid will continue to improve by leaps and bounds and the sheer numbers of vendors out there mean that it's going to be far easier to find that near-perfect device rather than accept the limitations of the Apple platform. And before you accuse me of Apple bashing - I'll point out that the single-source nature of iOS etc means that you have to accept Apple's view of how things should be done. Which is fine if it's a sensible set of choices, whereas stupid things like "FaceTime" show the limitations.

Oh, and in closing, it'll be interesting to see how intrusive Apple's new ad platform is - many Apple fanboi's have slagged off 'droid for being heavily infused with ad. If iAds is too "in your face" then it'd obvious that some of the iPhone's gloss will dim.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Sorry, won't happen. The fanboys will never think it is intrusive. In fact, they will think it is informative.
