Apple's name was mud in our house last night. My wife nearly threw the iPad 2 through the window. She's recently got into the beta and thought she'd be enjoying it around the house at her leisure - think again!

why are they blaming the developers for using a platform suitable for their software... surely people should be blaming apple for refusing to support said platform.

Ha! I'm glad people are blaming Apple and not the web-developers; while I'm not exactly enamoured with Flash it's a problem with the iPad not the website. Stop being stubborn idiots Apple and let people run Flash if they want to: it's their battery life to use!

People don't *want* to run flash, they've had it rammed down their throats by web developers. There's no need for it these days, at all, not that there was a true need for it to begin with. Apple are still stupid for not letting flash on iTard devices, but flash still sucks giant hairy balls.

    Thats just not true.

I hate flash as much as the next man who actually knows how to program, but flash was a godsend back in the day. It was better than Java Applets.

If you were around for the time that IE4 rocked the web with all these exciting dynamic things you could do, what option did you have for a funny annimation of a frog in a blender?

It allowed arty types to create some funny stuff.

Flash used in the right way, with good graphics can be amazing. Flash used where it plainly doesn't need to be used is a pain in the arse.

I've only seen some video clips of Pottermore when it was first announced, but it looked to me that flash was the best way to achieve the look and "experience".

I mean more people support flash than 'the right subset' of HTML5...

The tools are more mature, developers are more experienced.

Rip on flash, but lets do it when its appropriate!

Just like a lot of things in life, everyone jumps on the bandwagon because its the "next big thing", but it isnt web developers that have done this, its the people that employ them.

But, without things like Flash, people would be trying to cram all the same things into newer HTML specs.

Indeed, its just how the web has evolved.

Only have to look at websites using a very old browser, Mosaic for example, or using the way back machine to see how horrific websites were before things like Flash.

And those that do the whole site in Flash should be forced to watch the hamster dance for all eternity.
