I've been waiting for this!
Truthfully the technology and the idea of it has been around for a while behind closed doors. The real issue that is slowly being addressed is that of battery power for the tiny contact, as the report states, they're having to send power wirelessly which has flagged all sorts of health concerns.
Still though, I can't wait for something like this to hit the streets.
Tested on RABBITS? How did the rabbits even confirm that it works?!

I would think the rabbits are being used to check the safety of it, not to provide user feedback....

iWant! This is a great step forward with this technology - I can foresee a human version within the next 10 years (most likely for the military), but should see consumer tech of this kind in the next 20 years or so I would guess.
I'd pay almost anything for this tech when its available..simply awesome stuff. Lucky rabbits eh

they tested on rabbits to confirm it wouldn't scratch the retina, however the transmission range is currently only 2cm when fitted, about 20cm when away from the eye. And its one pixel.
What makes me laugh is that the newscientist article is titled:
'Electronic contact lens displays pixels on eyes'
The BBC has:
'Bionic lenses to project emails'
And Hexus has:
'Contact lenses of the future: read emails and play games'
