Only 32MB cache, that seems a little tight. Surely 64 MB would be more suitable?

Why the celebration? I'm guessing now's not the time for WD to be launching new products.

thank god,, i got a mATX enclosure,, this will help my storage issues out -- also running quite low on sata ports,, helping me out again..

can only take 4 HDD + 1 SSD internally,, leaving my DVD drive as IDE for now helps,,

True. I'm seriously looking at building a new fileserver, so this is definitely a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: News - Hitachi ships internal 4TB Deskstar 5K4000 hard drive kits

No doubt of little surprise to anyone, but I was looking at some more 2tb Samsung EcoGreen drives for my Microserver, and I didn't like the prices very much.

I doubt I'm going to like the price of the 4tb drive at this stage either....

...£300+ by the time they get to the UK?
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

I expect so. But once the market settles down they should force down the price of the 3TB drives which is the main thing.

I've been out of the loop a bit recently, this is quite a surprise to me. I thought we would have to wait longer for 4TB drives.

Would be interesting to see my file server re-built with these in RAID-6.

3Tb HDD's have been out for a while now, the prices seem to have hardly fallen, especially the internal ones, well I'm pretty sure its been like that prior to the floods!

Hmm, they have been using 1TB platters for a while now,
and hitachi's top end normally have 5 platters,
    so where's the 5TB drive ?
