Well if there is no i5-k I wouldn't be surprised. They practically have no competition. However I cant see me upgrading from a 2500k for ivy bridge. Not needed as its already fast enough.

Re: News - Intel Ivy Bridge price and date leak

I'll certainly be upgrading this time, still using a Core 2 Q6600. But out of those processors which is the 2500K of that series? Will it be the 3570k or 3770k? Need most bang for my buck. And I assume the Z77 Chipset is the one I'll be wanting?

there is table of features of each chipset showing here:

...though the manufacturers might add more themselves of course.

No i5-k? please tell me this is an accidental ommission and not an indication that there won't be one in the near future, waiting to upgrade to ivb from 775, and thats what i've been waiting for.

Re: News - Intel Ivy Bridge price and date leak

that link seems to say that there will be a 3570K, like every other release about ivybridge, the question is when? this is the first information release that does not say that it is immediate. They might try to run the 2500k out first I suppose?

Re: News - Intel Ivy Bridge price and date leak

No information on the unlocked i5 yet then? April is too long of a wait for me anyway.
    New build in January 2012.

Might go for a GEN3 motherboard for Ivy Bridge upgrade path in the future but I will probably wait until the next "tick" by Intel.

Edit: Just seen the comment above. Such a bad time for a new build but can't wait any longer.

Agreed, 3570k is definitely on the cards. I only hope its a similar price to the existing 2500k!

Re: News - Intel Ivy Bridge price and date leak

I'm hoping that with the 7 series chipset they have fixes quicksync enough that I can have a discrete GFX card plugged in with nothing connected to the motherboard and it still works. I also like the idea of Chipset native USB3. PCIe 3 I can take or leave TBH. Even in 5 years time, no mid range GFX card will be crippled by PCIe2 16x. These reasons, along with the fact that an i5 2500k isn't quite twice as fast as my Q6600 stopped me from buying a Sandy bridge CPU. I hope Ivy bridge is worthwhile to me.
