Re: News - Escort Live delivers cloud-based alerts for speedy motorists

So people have to (presumably) load up the app and press *speed camera here* - presumably with GPS enabled - all while driving along? Granted, you might have the app already open, but that plus only having speed cameras for the last hour and a half surely means it's going to fail due to lack of users?
Good idea in principle perhaps, but I'm not convinced that it'll be of any worth..

Here's a radical and much cheaper approach... don't break the speed limit!!

What is the world coming to!

By now all cars should wirelessly connect to a GPS system the prevents the car exceeding that roads limit.

    ^ That's a joke right?

I can sorta see what they are getting at / trying to bring to mobile users - I use google maps navigation alot, but it lacks the speed camera data base (as far as I know)...

So this is a less functional, paid version of the free navigation app 'Waze'.

Almost a good idea apart from what happens when you have to accelerate to get out of trouble or to overtake?

Yes but all the millions of privacy invading CCTV cameras around the UK can be used to prove that you were innocent given the circumstance and not just try to bust you when you cross the line...

In theory yes, but you can bet your arse that they wont actually check those camera's before issuing a ticket, they'll just send out a ticket and hope the majority cough up and they when challenged do they check the other evidence..

This is an application for users who are planning to break the law but don't want to be caught. A decent prosecution barister will have a field day with the information that the accused willfully obtained information about where the speed traps are.

Re: News - Escort Live delivers cloud-based alerts for speedy motorists

If it goes to court you're probably already screwed (or rather, perhaps you're not, given that if you weren't innocent you would probably just have taken the fine and points/speed awareness course). This is intended to keep you from getting caught.. but if it doesn't work, you'd be silly to try to argue your way out of a ticket by going to court if they've got evidence you were speeding, and this app (if the prosecution even knew about it) is unlikely to make a difference.

    Ahhh theres always one.

I tend to overtake as quickly and safely as possible, sometimes this means breaking the speedlimit.
I'd rather speed for a few hundred yards than spend longer than needed on the wrong side of the road...
