upgrade is a nice improvement no doubt, but not that i will make much use of the features as mine is essentially an e-reader cum web-browser.
Not sure why one would even consider this over the many native Android tablets out there, or even the ipad. Seems like RIM and clutching at straws to stay in the tablet market.
RIM - its over... your done....
because up until ICS at least multi-tasking on android has sucked, whereas the user experience with PBOS is sublime.
also the fact that you cannot get an android tablet of comparable build quality for the same price given the massive discount on playbooks since October.
finally, tegra2 is rubbish, and that tends to be the most popular choice for android tablets where an even slower solution is not chosen. Omap4 with 1GB, on the other hand, is an excellent SoC.

RIM had a decent market share with the phones and they were the choice for business, had the playbook been released a lot earlier then they could of really made a killing in the business world, imho of course, however, again imho it could very easily be a case of too little too late..
I found web browsing slightly lag right after the update.
You get more screen space when web browsing and keyboard has numbers above the qwerty. It's just little things but they add to experience of using it day to day.
Overall it's a basic device with a solid build. It does what most adults will need. e.g. web browsing with a bit of multimedia playback. The inclusion of press reader is a plus also for those who like reading newspapers (a bigger screen would be better), very clear. I haven't managed to find the Android player yet.
RIM should have sold this at a loss to spur sales of the phones. They also should learn from their mistakes of not announcing things 6 months earlier than actual release. Make sure the device is ready, then make an announcement and then have in peoples hands within weeks. Nokia did the same thing with the N8 and are suffering for it.
Right now, all tablets are taking a hammering from Kindle Fire.

This. Utterly. I had an Android tab - it was a fun toy, but was basically a phone with a big screen - great for basic tasks, but not up to anything remotely complex. My playbook often gets picked up in preference to my laptop nowadays. The user experience is utterly intuitive, and there's some really basic things it does that - to an extent - android struggles with: in particular I can load up *any* flash audio on any website in the world, then background the app and my audio keeps playing. Was a real pain messing about with dedicated apps to get that working on an Android tab.
Of course, IF ICS has fixed that, and IF someone makes a responsive, good performance ICS tablet for less than £200, and IF you're not already invested in the blackberry ecosystem, then it's possible that there's an Android tab out there that'll do the job. But therein lies part of the problem - how many Android tabs are you going to have to sort through to find one that you know will do the job? Choice is not always a good thing...
that is a lot of "if's", which is why i am happy to recommend a £169 playbook to anyone.

Hand depending on what you would like to do even ipad1 may be good enough. My friend has that and doesn't have any complaints. My cousin has Asus Transformer he picked up from ebay for 100 with ICS update and has noticed it is quicker.
The only thing I would add atm on playbook is a decent IM client. There is one ported from Android but @ 8quid.
