Sounds nice. Any pricing info?
..and any remaining benefit of CF cards reduces further.
XQD (the successor to CF) starts at 125MB/s.
Actually, it 'ends' at 125MB/s - speeds 'up to'. And at vast expense - and I said 'reduces further', not 'is removed'
The simple fact that you can get 32GB Class 10 SD cards for <£20 while the cheapest CF cards are at least £50 for 32GB, and while the top end CF/XQD cards are less than 30% faster than top-end SD cards, says to me that for almost all usage scenarios SD is the better format. It is cheap at entry-level and has performance up to professional, whereas CF cards only cater to professionals because of the high starting price.
Edit: in fact 32GB 90MB/s SD cards are available for around £70, while the 32GB 125MB/s XQD card you linked to has a price of $229.99.
You're wrong. From Wikipedia...
Class 10 SD cards are cheap because they are slow (~10MB/s).The new format is targeted at high-definition camcorders and high-resolution digital photo cameras. It would offer target read and write speeds from 1 Gbps (125 Mbyte/s) to about 500 Mbytes/s and storage capabilities beyond 2 TB.
Then I stand corrected; however from your own link:And I doubt you'll find any XQD cards at 500MB/s? Or in fact any faster than 125MB/s. And since really what we're talking about is currently available speeds, that takes us right back to where we started.Sony says that the cards boast data transfer rates of up to 1Gbps/125MB/s write and read.
So where are the cheap, slow CF cards? And 10MB/s is more than fast enough for anything your typical consumer will want to use them for, which includes 1080p video at 60fps. Which was kindof my point - SD cards are cheap, quick enough at the cheap end for consumers, and fast enough at the top (more expensive) end for professionals, while still remaining a third of the price of Sony's XQD cards (offering around 75% the performance).Class 10 SD cards are cheap because they are slow (~10MB/s).
