Who do these 'easier' transaction methods actually benefit... i cannot see the appeal at all and i dont think i know anyone who can. This has to purely be to the advantage of the banks and network providers, no-one else.

Agree with Biscuit... I don't see this as convenient either, cash is more convenient.

So I cab swop my debit/credit card for using my phone - at a cost of 15p per transaction.. but I still need my wallet so I can carry other cards, cash, condoms etc etc...
Plus my phone is more appealing to steal than my bulging condom filled wallet - so the risk is much greater of have this convenience stolen or even used fraudulently.

This idea is complete rubbish and the consumer has not jumped for it at all. Big fail , but clearly the banks and mobile companies have invested too much to amid fail yet.

PS I'm married, no condoms in my wallet - no point when married as sex goes out the window!!

Re: News - O2 launches text-message mobile wallet app

This article really confused me.... I first thought that O2 just released a "Wallet" app that allowed contactless NFC payments on your phone.

But it turns out that is it just another Paypal that uses your phone number to send money, instead of your name/email. The "O2 Wallet App" is just a medium for sending money, like a Paypal App. This "O2 Wallet" can be linked to a "O2 Money" account that will send you a "physical Visa card" that has a NFC chip built in, like the current ones on Barclay Cards. Why would I want to link my bank account/ debit card to this service so that I get another Debit card to cram into my condom filled wallet?? Makes no sense, especially when they charge you extra £xx for doing "almost anything" after looking at their fee list and conditions...

The "O2 Wallet" App's built-in Barcode scanner/Deal Finder is no different that using Google Goggles/ Google Shopper.

Eventually... they will enable it so that you can use your phone to make contactless NFC payments.....

Someone please explain the point of this product/app...???

Personally waiting for Google Wallet to come to the UK so that I can make true NFC payments through my phone.

What a waste of 15 minutes of my life researching this.....

Advantages over currency? Speed and convience... Thought this was obvious. Tapping the contact terminal to pay, no pin necessary, no need to wait for someone to give you change, no need to carry coins...

but do you not think that once factored against the risks it seems a lot more sensible to spend that extra 30 seconds working with a bank card or hard currency?

Re: News - O2 launches text-message mobile wallet app

It always confuses me, i havent looked into NFC enough but the way you say it Infinite is that it has no security... someone can literally steal your phone (or swipe it with the intent of sneaking it back shortly after) and quickly tap a terminal to charge you £x and bobs your uncle.. instead of spending time stealing your wallet and then guessing the pin or making an online purchase you have just made it piss easy for criminals.

I hate this idea of NFC, my phone is the item that is most likely to be stolen and i would NEVER allow it to contain any security information on me as id rather them make the effort and take my wallet at the same time, its unlikely as my wallet is always empty .

Re: News - O2 launches text-message mobile wallet app

The way I see it is that Google Wallet is safer than traditional methods. By the way a PIN can be set before you use it.

If someone steals your phone, the maximum they can steal is £15-£20 (if you didn't set a PIN). No bank details are accessible, your address isn't accessible. You contact your mobile service provider, phone gets block, you contact Google/ your bank, get your money back. Get your phone replaced if it is covered by insurance.

If someone steals your wallet, you lose all your cash, your credit card, your debit card (with your bank account details printed on), drivers licence (with your address on it), and your wallet (£300 Louis Vuitton?)... Your cash is gone and purchases can easily be made with your cards using your address...Your have to phone all your card companies to get them blocked, get a new driving license, get replacement other cards, etc

Surely a Wallet and Cash is more unsafe than Google Wallet?
