Why anyone bothers with such a developer hostile platform I'll never know.

Because there are millions of "Trendy" Crapuccino drinkers that "Must have the latest iThingimibob 2 as it's much better than the old one by being 0.1mm thinner, 2g lighter and available in white AS WELL AS black!!! can I get an AMEN! to that?"

I agree however, I dont think companies such as drop box and amazon can risk losing that segment of the market, its too big. Were apple always this hostile or did they bide their time till the market got big enough and then start cracking down on companies and stongarming them to co-operate with their unreasonable requirements?

Because anyone who pays £600 for a phone, is quite likely going to pay money for a fart app.

A 30% cut is just ridiculous and unjustifiable - if I were Amazon I would have done the same thing and I hope Dropbox follow suit.

Re: News - Apple blocks apps using the Dropbox SDK

To show how great dropbox is, they produced a new version for the developers...same day
    http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=59350

How does apple get away with this?
I've had a similar problem - and the same rejection - with various apps recently (since the end of January, for apps which are otherwise unchanged for 12+ months).
but they are now being super pedantic about it. eg, I had a white labeled app which had the companes logo in the UINavBar. Their logo includes .com. I had to remove that (it wasn't a link, just the image of the logo)

Hmm, my thoughts too - insisting on ALL transactions going via one route and thereby ensuring that they get a slice does strike me as distinctly dodgy - verging on extortion.

That's one of the two reasons why - whatever their undoubted technical excellence - that I'm not in the market for iPhone or iPad.

Re: News - Apple blocks apps using the Dropbox SDK

How long tille anti trust... its Apple so it will never be faced with that situation, they can supply their OS with as much of their own software as they want where as others have to give the user direct access to alternatives! Apple always seems to be ignored as the bad apple, best reason i can think of is that they're American and bring in a lot of money and probably bribe people along with having the best lawyers on earth so even when they are blatantly in the wrong it can be turned around .

Another reason why i will NEVER buy Apple, fine if you want a closed eco system but you have to atleast take it seriously... you cant expect developers to remove purchase options from their WEBSITE, when its accessed by anyone, apple basically wants everyone to not give options to people unless they use Apple... idiots.

    Their OS, their rules.

That said, it would **** me off so much if I were writing an app for my company.. I'd probably end up with a full-featured app for Android and a cut-down app for iOS. It certainly wouldn't include giving a penny to those sanctimonious money-grabbers.

Once again, MS had and have a near monopoly which is why the EU got involved (although I still disagree with their decision). Apple do not even have a majority so the EU are very unlikely to become involved for the foreseeable future.
