"Also cnet think the Sleekbooks from HP will start at approximately £549."

    $599= £549

Even with VAT on, thats a pretyy crappy exchange rate

    "1366 x 768" throughout range...

I lack a reaction image that expresses the level of my disappointment...

Hopefully with the 1366X768 resolution,it means the Trinity IGP should be fine with many newer games then.

This. On one hand the res is naff, on the other, games should look fairly good on it.

I have to ask "How many laptop gamers game on their laptops KVM?"

I always assumed (maybe incorrectly!) that most would hook them up to a TV + controller when gaming.......or are they all serious masochists?

My brother used to play League of Legends (MOBA type game) on my mums notebook - he used the keyboard as normal and used a USB mouse, he seemed to plod along fine.

    Re: Sahithis

The people I know who do regularly use their laptops for more than just casual gaming are not exactly ultrabook customers. Desktop replacements with huge screens and discrete GPUs would suit them more than light/portable/battery life.

i dont personally game on a laptop as i dont have a laptop powerful enough but my friend always has, he has a desktop but his laptop is always used for lans and when his pc is broken, its faster than his pc and was cheaper . Think gaming on the laptops is a brilliant idea, all you need is a decent sized display or hook it up to a separate monitor and a kb + mouse and you're away!.

Sleekbook is a much better name than ultrabook IMO.

I saw the resolution and stopped reading...

Re: News - AMD Ultrabook christened Sleekbook by HP

Personally I don't game much, but I also play League of Legends and it runs fine on 720p on Intel's ultrabooks. With Trinity I'm sure I could max out all the specs. It's a shame that the sleekbooks are so heavy - when you include the weight of the adapter it's even heavier. 8 hour battery life does mean you could probably skip carrying the adapter though.

Personally 1366*768 looks good to me on 13.3" laptops. On a 15" it looks a bit worse. To me, the resolution doesn't matter so much as the panel. I've had an Acer S3 and Toshiba Z830 and their TN panels suck so much! Although laptop screens are easily adjustable, I find most of them are really really bad. Perhaps it's due to me being used to using IPS monitors (desktop IPS monitor + iPhone 4).

Re: News - AMD Ultrabook christened Sleekbook by HP

If HTC can squeeze 720p into a ~5" phone, and apple can fit 2x1.5k into ~10" tablet then they can do better than that and i wont be interested until they do.

Christ my 11" netbook has 720p and that does my head in on some software/websites.

Re: News - AMD Ultrabook christened Sleekbook by HP

Well I guess my requirements for a laptop are peculiar; all I need is half decent IGP (HD3000 is enough for me) + a half decent CPU (i5-2467M is enough) + an SSD (I can install 7mm ones or mSATA ones myself so not too bothered if it doesn't come with one) + 4GB DDR3 RAM + be under 1.4kg in weight. Keyboard backlighting, 900p+ resolution etc I could give up on. Almost all the ultrabooks out there fit this requirement but they're also all over £500 with some even over £1000. I do love the Samsung NP900X3B (and it does have a 900p screen) but I hate it's price point.. ~£1200 lol...

It would be nice to be offered a 1440x900 (or whatever it is) resolution - it's not like you don't have the option to lower the resolution if you do game on it.

    I find 1366x768 completely unusable.

Re: News - AMD Ultrabook christened Sleekbook by HP

I think we're all agreed that HP have dropped the ball a bit on these ultra-sleek-books. BUT if the battery claims on the AMD chips are correct then they may finally be some serious competition to Intel in the laptop space. We just need another manufacturer to bring out some decent hardware and a few reviews
