Toshiba's screen has been out a few weeks now, John Lewis do it, and if you wanna see it before you buy it they're demo'ing it at the Oxford Street Store in London

TBH I'm more interested in OLED than 4k - for 1, at 55" 1080p is still stunning, I'd only get 4k if I was looking at an 80" or so.

Then there's the content, or lack of it. The only native thing you could use is a PC, but you'd need a 7970 and it's a max of 24hz

I would never even consider a TV of this quality unless ALL TV broadcasts become 1080p non HD content looks crap on my LED TV!

Well I think the price is pretty good for a 55" TV based on emerging technology. If it follows the same pricing delta as Plasma's and LCD's it should be mainstream in the sort of timescales indicated in the article. I've not seen an OLED TV in the flesh but most reports I've seen from people that have describe it as a big step forward compared to existing technology.

That depends on what you use your TV for, I have a 50" Plasma and i barely watch TV on it, probably about 1 hour every couple of weeks.

Mine is used for watching 1080p movies pretty much all weekend with the misses and quite alot in the evening on weekdays. Couldnt live with out it!

The choice between different manufacturers is too often governed by paper specs, though - I have a panasonic BD80 blu-ray player, which is diabolical! Okay, the picture quality is great, but it's SLOW, and the UI is terrible. This makes it really frustrating to use. I also have a philips TV, which again has very good picture quality but some other issues (like taking sometimes 15-20 seconds to actually turn on, and often up to 30s to turn off...!). The only company that has consistently produced decent hardware *with decent software* in my personal experience (including Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Apple and LG) is Samsung - although with that said I did just have to replace some capacitors on a mate's Samsung monitor (but hey, now it'll work for several more years, and their monitors are pretty nice IMHO).

The only TV we watch on it is recorded from SKY+HD. Fringe, Game of Thrones, Bones, all look lovely in HD.
Ours is a Toshiba 40ZF355D and about 3/4 years old. It's still a stunning telly. Bluray is glorious.

To remember just how naff telly quality was, just watch a bit of Saturday Kitchen (yes, you really can stop watching Soccer AM for 5 minutes), when James show an old excerpt from Keith Floyd shows. from the early 80s. It's so grainy with washed out colours. lol.Great telly, naff quality.

Still, one of these Sammys would look amazing in my room

It was worse but probably not by the margin it appears to be. Most of that old footage was recorded on film that has been stored and degraded over the decades. It would have been better when it is originally broadcast.

I hope there will also be enough content to justify getting one of these. I also wonder If I'd even recognise such resolution on say, 30 inch monitor?
