Links not working but it seems like a good idea, just need to make sure that we can save documents locally and they are on to a winner IMO

I think it would be stupid to continue avoiding the two prime platforms, MS has a good mobile OS but cant gain ground, so if with good OS and good software you still cant gain much traction then you may aswell use your own software to get more money. Think how much money they would make from iOS and Android, crap loads i bet... im always looking for a good office solution as sometimes i require it on the move, the lack of MS office is disapointing since i came from a HD2 which was windows mobile 6.5.5 and had Office 2010! I want it back and will buy it (if reasonably priced and ported well).

Its a good move, just like when they started selling on Macs, if you cant beat them then you may aswell get the extra Software sales .

Sounds a good idea. Even though a touch only tablet is still not the ideal platform IMHO for such work, for light office work,ie,the occasional letter and spreadsheet this should do well, and probably will be enough for a decent amount of people.

This + Transformer Prime = No need for a Windows convertible laptop or W8.

Docs2Go worked for me - like LibreOffice I guess it really depends how many of those "advanced" features that you use.

This, (although I'm slumming it on an old Transformer).

Would it be smarter to keep Microsoft Office Mobile exclusively for Windows mobiles and tablets or make Office available on as many mobiles and tablets as possible?
Microsoft in the past would have made it a Windows exclusive. If, on the other hand "Microsoft 2012" want to make Office available across non-Microsoft platforms then - as far as I'm concerned - they deserve nothing but praise. And heck, they might even get a few of my hard-earned £'s, (especially if Libre Office doesn't make it to Android).

Two comments though - they'll lose brownie points if the Android and iOS versions are a lot more expensive than the Windows one. Secondly, if they allow use of other people's cloud storage (iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc) then that's going to be a good implementation.

Hexus criticism: the article's title says "Office for iPad, iPhone and Android due in November", but the Android platform seems to have got dropped in the comment sections title. May I suggest that "Office for iOS and Android due in November" would be a better way to put it?

Questions like that pretty much sum up why they are doing it; the more people not using MS Office, the more shaky the future of MS Office will be.

As for price, as I understood it W8 tablets are due to come with Office pre-installed? Maybe I'm remembering wrong? Wouldn't be surprised to see the iOS and Android versions costing as much as £40 (unless they sell the program's separately, in which case maybe £8 each?).

Very smart move that should've been done a long time ago. Microsoft's biggest market is software and to have avoided putting out Office programs on competitors' devices for this long is just lost profits.
