If it's pulling back that many pictures they're not going to be looking at them, they'll just feed them through OCR and dump them afterwards I expect.

This is nothing new really and there's gazillion of malwares in the wild that could possibly do a whole lot more than limit their interests to a few picture formats. How about piggy-backing on your webcam's live feed? Transmitting any documents you might have stored on your PC on demand? Yes, even such software exists. Most would be smart enough to run dormant (not to be detected by network scanners) and would only get activated remotely and obfuscating each and every transmission, if 'needed'. Malware would detect what kind of traffic is mostly used on a certain machine and then use that same protocol to 'share' your data. There's even some integrating complete web toolkits that would be able to post bogus comments, send spam emails, even register to various sites and do the 'social engineering' thingy, making people believe those lame, advert ridden, bad excuses for movies are really loved and admired by so many. Or similar. Scared yet? What's my point is that this article does nothing but attempts to promote certain computer security business, and fails to advice people in how detect such malware, or indeed how to get rid of it, if it's installed on their PCs. Worth noting Trend Micro isn't the only company with products capable of detecting such malware! Cheers!
