    We often hear about this kind of thing, but it's a shame that they never really seem to come to the consumer market.

    I remember IBM talking about experimental 128 core CPU's years and years ago.

    the difference is that this toshiba chip is an actual product they are trying to sell in to the next gen of TV's (e.g. making the processors needed to drive 2K displays down thus helping reduce the price of the whole TV as it gradually becomes more mainstream)

    those IBM chips were experimental... taking "years and years" to go from experimental to retail is hardly suprising

    those experimental 128 core processors you are probably talking about are probably the maximum scaled up version of the cell processor... I can't think of any retail devices with cell processors... :/
