Re: News - Windows Phone 8 revealed at sneak peek event

Ooooh looking better, at this rate my phone after next might well be a Windows phone... (next one probably another droid). Good to see the features coming up on parity with other OS and fruits of the Nokia 'not-quite-buyout-yet-but-maybe-soon' deal finding their way in. Sounds bad for Nokia though, one of their selling points things was the excellent Maps.

Microsoft seem to be trying hard, Windows 8 has some great integration potential across many devices.

Interesting too, that some are saying it could spell very bad news for Blackberry as MS are definitely targeting the corporate sector heaving here. Blackberry's are the default in my company and I'd love to see something different/better for work use.

I've been looking forward to this for ages! They've kind of screwed curernt users over a bit though what with the lack of app compatibility and whatnot.

I'm thinking about telling my friend (who bought a lumia 900 last weekend) to return it and wait till the Windows phone 8 release. What do you guys think?

Cant wait, it looks like a solid upgrade and im actually excited! I wonder how it will compare to jelly bean, as my contract doesnt end till may next year im in no rush to wait for both to get to a level of decent prices. I do like how WP is always a much smoother experience and battery life is better. Maybe those toshiba CPU will be getting in on that 64 core limit .

Looks like MS has actually put serious thought into this and its making Win8 look a bit better by the day as if i ever did get one id have so much integration, even the MS tablets have caught my eye... WHAT IS HAPPENING? The world is on its head...

They have been for some time too - there's some serious long term strategy going on here along with the will to implement it (and to take a hit in the short term to do so). Will it pay off? No idea, but things are getting much more interesting regardless.

Re: News - Windows Phone 8 revealed at sneak peek event

Hmm, the phone side looks good (my daughter's already said that she'll probably be replacing her current Samsung/Android phone with a Nokia/Windows one next year).

No, the thing that's catching my eye is the possibility of WP8-powered tablets. With a shedload of processor cores and that nice support for "gaming middleware" I'm thinking that THESE could be the tablets to have if you're a keen gamer, (and - of course - the game software turns up!).

64 cores though - that's got to be tablet - either that or an 80's sized phone! LOL

Poor perhaps but definitely worth the immediate suffering for the long term goodness. Don't you think?

When Windows 8 is released we'll have almost every piece of technology properly communicating with each other - as well as being beautifully consistant.

Re: News - Windows Phone 8 revealed at sneak peek event

It's not always possible to maintain an update path if you want to completely bring in something new (and hopefully better). I'm not sure how true this applies to software though, perhaps it's because MS just want to dump the older phones as they're not powerful enough hardware wise to run Windows Phone 8 smoothly enough? On the other hand, I doubt it though as with my quick hands on with Windows Phone 7.5 it was really really smooth.

Windows Phone 8 does look pretty interesting and seems to bring a lot of functionality. I'm glad about language support, I bought a Windows Phone 7.5 phone for my gf's mum to use whilst she was in the UK and it didn't even have the option for Chinese! I couldn't believe it, I tried to look around on the web at that time but didn't find anything useful. In the end went for a Motorola Defy but Android broke every now and then and I wasn't really happy to fix it to be honest.

Personally I use an iPhone because I'm simple and haven't really got the time to learn about all the neat things in Android, Windows Phone is beginning to look interesting though. If there are enough useful apps in the MS app store, I'll be happy to move over. Obviously this also depends on price - I won't buy a phone if it costs over £350 (my iPhone 4 was second hand) and I use giffgaff (£10/month).

I STILL hate the interface, but good job on the rest, I hope Google can pull something out of its pockets with Android 5.0, hopefully including upgradability for my S III.
