Am I the only one who looked at the "Reasons..." and thought "Hang on a moment, Windows already does all/most of those things already..."

Re: News - Apple drops Mac virus immunity claims

As above, took them long enough! In reality, OS X has never been virus-proof, it's just been a far less attractive target in the past. Also notice how they basically say Mac isn't susceptible to WINDOWS viruses - it's designed to mislead people into thinking Mac can't get viruses. Windows earned it's insecure reputation back on pre-SP2 XP days, but the rapid adoption of Internet connectivity supposedly took them by surprise. Still no excuse for some of the mistakes/features though. However, Windows is completely different today; it's a far more secure OS, arguably more so than Mac, not least because of the more arrogant Mac user attitude. A great deal, probably most, of the malware installed is through user incompetence, often after following 'expert' guides to disable UAC/update/etc. Of course, you get 'experts' for either OS, who easily match viruses for potential damage...

im just surprised they never got massive bills for this absurd false advertising, misleading customers into thinking they're 100% safe when they never were.. its like going down an alley way, the mugger has two choices mug the guy who looks rich or the little hobo... you will always go for the one that will reap the best rewards (money = user base...).

I must admit i am smiling at how bad Apple is doing at the minute, every other day theres news that somethings been changed or they have lost a court case!

it might have been truer to say OSX isn't susceptible to the thousands of pc viruses, but a mac is if you run windows on it

i wonder if there are any viruses for windows that look for osx instals and mess with them

What annoyed me most about those adverts was the claim that Macs are not PCs.

Macs aren't PCs, there is nothing that one can make personal to me about their eco system.

Joking asside, their is something about mac users that grinds my gears, my flight yesterday was running 8 hours late, I'd been in airports on planes for 16 hours at this point, I'm in a easily my least favourite place in the world (Dubai) and some english **** sits down next to me, fiar enough you think, he opens his mac book air and promptly tells me "I should get one of these, they are better". I just got up and went to sit some place else, now I understand why I'm now allowed anything sharp.

Re: News - Apple drops Mac virus immunity claims

"It's built to be safe" - mmm, catchy! Unlike all those other operating systems that are deliberately built to be as unsafe as possible, just for the fun of it???

I don't like to be petty (ok sometimes I do), but if Apple (and Apple users) hadn't been so damn smug about this for all those years then we wouldn't all be taking quite so much pleasure in them finally admitting that they're wrong.

Reading that article and then watching those videos induced in me what I believe to be a very great felicity. The irony!

To be fair, I felt like stabbing some iPad lover on the train last week. They were describing it to their partner's parents - "it's so much better than a laptop", "Windows sucks, you can do so much more on an iPad".

I nearly stood up and firmly corrected her but then again I guess I'd be as bad as her.

I'm LOL'ed; there are so many people whinging and moaning about Apple... What is the chance of my Apple getting infected with a virus? Hmmm... maybe or maybe not... But for PC it is hard to say..
