Yerp, just as long as "translate" != "£1:1$". A quick bit of figuring sees a 7970 for £332 inc VAT, which sounds quite good to my inexpert ears.
EDIT: There's already that pricing http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-m...-dl-dvi-i-hdmi, actually £322 so a whole tenner cheaper!

One of these days I'm going to get off my lazy b'hind and seek out some benchmarks - something a bit quicker than my (now old) GF460 would be desirable, and up to this point I've been a staunch NVidia loyalist.

I'm going to wait till August or later for the GTX660 to see what NVidia brings but if the prices get any lower I'll take the plunge now!

I wonder how much these cuts will end up being, currently at scan the cheapest 7950 is £6 more than the new pricing, including vat and probably the import shipping i think that meets the MSRP so lets hope it means it goes down by another £50 haha!.

Must resist and wait for the 8000 series... cant leave the 460 yet even if it is slow in arma!

The GTX580 are still going for near 300 quid so I don't the 670 will drop any time soon.

The GTX660 will compete with the HD7950, which is why AMD has dropped prices, something AMD should have also done @ the release of GTX670 also, either way, it’s good to see AMD not reacting to nVidia when damage is already done but instead attacking for once. I think nVidia will release anther GK104, a crippled version of the GTX670 in GTX680 quantities, I don`t see the GTX660 coming below £300 for the 1st few months and when it does, it will be too late as the next gen leaks will start and release not so long after.

Still nowhere near cheap enough for me. Need another 100 off the 7970 before I'll be tempted, and by the time that happens, there will probably be a new gen close to release anyway.

Given that the costs of GPUs mainly centers around the combined costs of fabricated die (based on its area) + memory + bus, past gpu generations lead that a 352mm die like the 79xx cards should sell between $250 - $350 (like the 69xx cards). So it is good they are finally getting into the price range where AMD isn't getting significant returns (or maybe the fab tech is just maturing and TSMC isn't taking everyone for a ride by being the only supplier).

Meanwhile, the GTX 680 with its 294mm die should only be around ~$300 at most. So that is really overpriced still. Hoping Nvidia drops it, but it seems there is a pervasive sense that the 680 is "better" than the 7970 so it is worth the premium, even though it sucks balls at GPGPU with less vram for extremely high resolution textures.
