Is it just me, or is there a sense of dread now that Google seems to have decided to follow Apple in trying to patent other peoples designs? As stated in the article this doesn't seem any more "innovative" than designs from other manufacturers.

Completely agree! This doesn't seem to be anything novel to what's already been made and promoted.
With that said, I'd like to get my hands on this type of system to see just how useful it is in the real life, and the more partners bringing products to market means we're likely to see plenty of choice for the consumer in the not-too-distant future.
