Oh yes - but is WP8 ready for consumers yet? I've not seen much press about it other than there's shared code with full-on Windows8.Amazing would be something like a new Nokia Lumia 1k PureView range of smartphones sporting the Windows Phone 8 OS.

I want finger extensions ... then I can play this darned guitar properly!
Considering Windows 8 wont be out till October I would be surprised if they launched an WP8 before that, it may just be an announcement of a new phone, unless they will be shipping 7.5 and allowing people to upgrade to 8 release.

...with the existing Win7 phones (which is kind of why Nokia shot itself in the foot, why buy a phone you know will be out of date in 6 months) but if the hardware is right, it might be do-able with a new handset. Still, I agree it is more likely an announcement and the phone will be released with Win8.
I care. In that I am interested in what happens to nokia and windows phone.
I really like windows phone, dont like the UI of iOS and android, but with the simplicity of windows phone and how well coded it is (ran brilliantly on my 2 year old single core hd2).
And a company the size of nokia, really dont want them to fail. Think of how many thousands would be affected.

But for the other 99.5% of the planet, it'll still be a complete non-event.
Well that's really only a problem for Nokia shareholders and Finland. And they didn't object to Elop and his master Windows Phone strategy which is imploding the company. So neither can really complain.
I think he's referring to the people who work for Nokia...
As an aside, the company has been on the plunge for years. In the past five years the share price has dropped by $36, most of that under the previous management. What we're seeing is the slow death of confidence in the company, the seeds of which can be traced all the way back to 2007.
I care as well. I don't want to see Nokia slide away to die, I want to see both Nokia and WP8 succeed and I am looking forward to seeing the new WP8 phones and what the reviewers say about them. I've been using iPhones for four years and I'm tired of them, I don't like Android and think that the new Windows approach is a more interesting proposition for a smart phone OS.
Have you ever witnessed a Nokia surprise? It will leaked way before then.
Nokia's last push - its now the sink or swim launch !!
Every smartphone I had was Nokia until the N95. That was the biggest disappointment of my mobile phone owning life (And the most expensive monthly as well!). I'm sorry but Nokia would have to do a lot more than bring out another Lumia to make me interested. Wake me up when they bring out something interesting like the Note I currently have!
Edit: I do think Elop sunk the company by going 100% WMP rather than do a two horse strategy (Either keeping Symbian alive properly or doing an android line too).
I liked the look of the note. How are you finding it ? Especially in speed ?
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
